Storage Specialist This position is located in the New Cumberland Defense Logistics Center, PA. The salary range for this position is $70,623 to $91,815 per year. This position is in the competitive service with a pay scale and grade of GS-9. The work schedule is full-time. This position is permanent and does not offer promotion potential. This position is in the 2030 Distribution Facilities and Storage Management series. Supervisory status is not required for this position. A security clearance of other is required. Duties Reviews item characteristics such as special storage requirements, popularity, security requirements, historic data and hazardous compatibility in order to plan preferred storage location. Recommends the allocation of items and classes of items to particular depot facilities. Provides support and advice on proper layout and utilization of allocated space to depot functional organizations. Conducts training of personnel involved in the implementation of new or revised methods for storage of material as new techniques and concepts are developed. Reviews regulations and circulars insuring conformance which other directives or higher echelon regulations and policy. Requirements Must be a U.S. citizen. Tour of Duty: Set Schedule. Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, where reciprocity cannot be applied; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal. Qualifications To qualify for a Storage Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-09 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Prepares operating procedures in established format for approval by supervisor and instructs or furnishes assistance to operating personnel in new procedures. Develops and conducts studies and makes recommendations to effect more efficient space utilization for overall depot mission considering all depot facilities. Performs location changes, storage balance changes and rewarehousing as needed to keep records correct and in balance as material condition changes are effected. B. Education Substitution: Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Education must be from a college or university accredited by an organization approved by the U.S. Department of Education. If using education to meet basic qualifications, YOU MUST SUBMIT A TRANSCRIPT as supplemental documentation. To qualify based on education in lieu of specialized experience, you must possess: a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree LL.B. or J.D., if related. C. Combination: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for grade levels GS-09 and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grade GS-09. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Demands: Work is primarily of a sedentary nature. Occasional periods of walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items, such as paper or small parts may be required. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Work Environment: The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. Work is performed in an office type setting where the work area provides adequate light, heat, and ventilation. Work requires visits to storage or other industrial areas and involves moderate risk or climatic discomforts. Protective clothing and gear and observance of safety precautions is required.
