Overview The Global Sourcing Specialist plays a key role in managing and overseeing the company’s global import and export compliance efforts. This position ensures that all international trade activities follow applicable laws and regulations, and that required documentation, filings, and reports are completed correctly and on schedule. The role also serves as an internal resource on tariffs, international markets, and regulatory requirements across various countries. Key Responsibilities Technical & Functional Duties Determine Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes and export classifications for products in accordance with U.S. and international regulations. Review and update HTS classifications and maintain accurate tariff master data within the ERP system. Lead the Supplier Solicitation process for Free Trade Agreement (FTA) programs and prepare Certificates of Origin when required. Manage cross‑border transactions for equipment moving between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Prepare, validate, and manage import/export documentation to support compliant shipments. Act as the primary point of contact for all import/export operations in collaboration with customs brokers. Exercise independent authority to investigate export/import activities, validate compliance, ensure accuracy, and halt transactions if necessary. Support strategic and special initiatives related to global trade compliance. Compliance Responsibilities Review transactions and conduct due‑diligence checks to identify potential compliance risks. Perform internal audits of import/export processes and assist in developing and implementing corrective actions. Build and maintain compliance training programs and internal control assessment processes. Monitor evolving trade laws and regulations and evaluate their potential impact on the organization. Partner with cross‑functional teams to help embed strong compliance controls into operational procedures, and provide related training. Interpret and apply trade regulations, ensuring the organization stays aligned with current requirements. Experience 4+ years in international logistics or distribution involving customs, freight forwarders, and import/export processes. 2+ years working directly with import/export compliance regulations. Experience performing accurate tariff classifications. A combination of 8+ years of education and related experience in logistics, distribution, and trade compliance is acceptable. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Deep understanding of international shipping documents (commercial invoices, packing lists, air waybills, export licenses, etc.) and key data elements such as INCOTERMS, tariff codes, customs valuation, country of origin, and export licensing requirements. Working knowledge of ITAR, EAR, OFAC sanctions, Customs Regulations, and Foreign Trade Regulations. Engagement with trade organizations, customs-focused events, and port‑related training activities. Ability to evaluate complex information, provide sound recommendations, and produce detailed business documentation. High proficiency in Microsoft applications and experience with ERP systems (IFS is a plus). Ability to work independently, analyze diverse data, and make informed decisions. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.). Experience working in rail logistics or rail‑based supply chains.
