Position Description Apex is seeking a Senior Manager of Human Resources who is energized by the opportunity to build, improve, and lead during a pivotal stage of organizational growth. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this role will play a critical part in strengthening and scaling the HR function, including leading the evolution of our internal HR infrastructure and taking full internal ownership of the employee lifecycle and the systems that power it. This position is ideal for an experienced HR leader who thrives in build-mode environments and is excited to create structure, enhance processes, and elevate the employee experience within a growing organization. This is not a maintenance role - it is a hands-on leadership opportunity requiring both strategic thinking and operational execution. You will partner closely with leadership to strengthen core HR infrastructure, guide complex employee matters, and help develop the systems and governance needed to support a workforce approaching 1,000 employees. Core Responsibilities • Lead the continued evolution of Apex's HR operating structure to support long-term scalability and compliance. • Build and implement scalable HR processes across employee relations, compliance, payroll, benefits, and HR systems. • Partner with Finance and senior leaders to support organizational growth, workforce planning, and operational alignment. • Oversee day-to-day payroll and benefits operations, establishing strong processes that promote accuracy and efficiency. • Strengthen operational controls, reporting, and cross-functional coordination related to payroll and benefits. • Drive process improvements through technology, automation, and operational best practices. • Serve as a trusted partner to leaders, providing guidance on performance management, employee relations, and risk mitigation. • Lead investigations and resolve complex employee matters with sound judgment and professionalism. • Coach managers through employee conversations, performance concerns, and organizational challenges. • Standardize HR practices across locations while maintaining multi-state compliance. • Identify opportunities to strengthen engagement, retention, and leadership capability. • Leverage HR data and workforce insights to support informed decision-making. • Implement practical solutions that support a high-performing workforce and evolving business needs. Qualifications • Bachelor's degree required; HR certification strongly preferred. • 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including time supporting leaders in a Business Partner or HR leadership capacity. • Experience supporting multi-state and/or multi-site organizations. • Strong employee relations and investigation expertise. • Demonstrated ability to influence leaders and build trusted partnerships. • Experience building or improving HR processes in growing organizations is preferred. • Comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution. • Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to align people practices to organizational goals. • Executive-level communication skills with the ability to guide and influence leaders. • Proven ability to lead through change and operate effectively in environments experiencing growth or transformation. • Strong judgment with the ability to balance employee advocacy and organizational risk.
