Job Title: Custom Foot Orthotics Fabricator Position Type: Full-Time Reports To: Director of Operations / Clinical Director Location: Biocorrect LLC, Kentwood Michigan Position Overview Biocorrect is seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Custom Foot Orthotic Fabricator to join our production team. This position's primary focus is the creation, modification, quality control, and repair of custom foot orthotics based on clinical measurements, digital scans, or plaster casts. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy precision craftsmanship and technical problem-solving. While the core responsibility centers on orthotic fabrication, this position also offers a structured pathway toward future growth into patient-facing care and clinical support for candidates interested in pursuing pedorthic certification (C.Ped). You will play a direct role in improving patients' mobility, comfort, and quality of life by producing high-quality, custom foot orthotic devices. Key Responsibilities - Fabrication Focus Custom Fabrication: Fabricate custom foot orthotics from start to finish, including vacuum forming plastic shells, grinding, heating, and assembling materials. Precision Modification: Interpret prescriptions and modify orthotic devices using band saws, bench grinders, and sanders to meet specific dimensions (inches to millimeters). Material Science: Select and work with appropriate materials, including thermoplastics (polypropylene), EVA foam, cork, carbon fiber, leather, and posting materials. Quality Control: Perform rigorous inspections of finished products to ensure they meet precise specifications, fit criteria, and safety standards. CAD/CAM Operations: Utilize CAD/CAM software to design, modify, or carve foot molds (positive models). Maintenance & Safety: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory, adhering to OSHA regulations and handling chemicals/materials properly. Collaboration: Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure orthotic devices align with patient treatment plans. Secondary Responsibilities - Clinical Support (Development Track) As competency increases and interest is demonstrated, opportunities may include: Assisting with 3D scanning, foam impressions, and casting. Supporting orthotic fittings and adjustments. Participating in biomechanical evaluations under supervision. Learning patient education protocols regarding orthotic use and footwear selection. Collaborating with Certified Pedorthists on case design and treatment planning. Structured mentorship may be provided for candidates pursuing Board Certified Pedorthist (C.Ped) certification. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Experience: Willingness to learn; no prior orthotics experience required; ideal candidate would possess experience in hands-on manufacturing, fabrication, footwear, or precision craftsmanship (will train the right person). Technical Skills: Proficiency with hand tools: drills, heat guns, power tools grinders, and saws. Manual Dexterity: Excellent fine motor skills for trimming, grinding, and assembling small, intricate components. Attention to Detail: Ability to meticulously follow detailed, patient-specific, technical instructions. Key Competencies Problem-Solving: Troubleshooting fabrication challenges and adapting designs based on patient needs. Time Management: Prioritizing tasks to meet production deadlines. Teamwork: Contributing to a collaborative environment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for long periods (often 8 hours). Ability to lift up to 30-50 lbs periodically. Comfortable working in a potentially noisy environment (grinding/cutting machinery). Personal protection equipment will be provided.
