Join a compassionate and multidisciplinary team as a Behavioral Health Technician / Psych Tech in the Acute Stabilization Center (ER Behavioral Health Unit) in Upper Marlboro, Maryland (Prince George's County). This travel psychiatric tech position offers hands-on experience in an acute behavioral health and ER stabilization setting, serving patients from pediatric through geriatric. Job Details Position Type: Travel Contract - Behavioral Health Technician (Psych/MH Tech) | Travel behavioral health jobs, travel psych tech Facility: Acute Stabilization Center (ER Behavioral Health Unit) Location: Upper Marlboro, MD 20774 (Prince George's County; near Washington, D.C.) Contract Length: 13 weeks (March 23, 2026 - June 22, 2026) Shift: Days, 3x12-hour shifts (07:30 - 20:00) Hours per Week: 36 Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend Unit Size / Patient Ratio: 7 beds (5 adult, 2 pediatric); typical ratio 1:7 Patient Population: Pediatric through geriatric; acute psychiatric and ER behavioral health Estimated Weekly Pay Range: $790 - $840 Charting / EHR: Epic preferred (experience with Epic a plus) Floating: Required within specialty (inpatient BHU, ER behavioral health support only, and Laurel campus as needed) Job Requirements / Qualifications Experience: Minimum 1 year of behavioral health, psychiatric, or ER psych support experience required; first-time travelers welcome License: Active Maryland CNA license required Certifications: BLS (AHA) and CPI required Flu Vaccine: Required - no exemptions References: Two satisfactory professional references (one supervisor/manager and one charge RN acceptable) Local Rule: Permanent residence must be 50+ miles from the facility Skills: Behavioral health skillset including locked-unit workflows, safety checks, de-escalation, crisis intervention, therapeutic communication, and behavior management Preferred: Experience with Epic, community hospital settings, and Trauma Level II facilities Responsibilities Provide direct patient care and continuous observation in an acute behavioral health / ER stabilization setting Perform routine safety rounds, room checks, and maintain environmental safety in a locked behavioral health unit Support a therapeutic milieu through calm, respectful communication and evidence-based behavior management techniques Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) including ambulation, feeding, hygiene, and bathing; obtain and document vital signs Recognize and promptly report changes in behavior, escalation, self-harm risk, or potential medication side effects to the clinical team Participate in crisis response, de-escalation, and restraint processes per policy (physical, chemical, mechanical as applicable) Maintain accurate documentation in the EHR (Epic preferred) and communicate clearly during handoffs Float as needed across specialty areas including inpatient BHU, ER behavioral health support only, and Laurel campus Why Upper Marlboro?
