Job Profile Summary: Provides basic behavioral health services including case management to patients through assessment and service planning in support of an array of mental health conditions ranging from adjustment to suicidal risk. Conducts outreach services, prevention efforts, psychoeducation and training. Job Description: The Sports Dietitian supports the mission and goals of SDA and collaborates as an integral member of SDA Nutrition, and an interdisciplinary sports performance team, ensuring student-athletes have the individualized resources necessary to achieve and sustain competitive excellence. This position will serve a variety of teams, with primary emphasis on football. Under direction from the Director of Football Nutrition, the Sports Dietitian supports the execution of daily nutrition operations for Arizona State University's football program. This position contributes to the delivery of comprehensive nutrition services that help football student-athletes optimize their athletic performance, academic success, and personal development. This position will also serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned Olympic team(s), providing one-on-one nutrition guidance and delivering team education and support as needed. Ensures compliance with the rules and regulations of NCAA and Big-12, as well as the policies and procedures of the University and the Arizona Board of Regents in all projects. Position Salary Range: $60,000 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices of nutrition care, clinical dietetics and nutrition education. Skill in effective group and individual communications. Ability to assess individual needs of students, faculty and staff in weight management, disease-specific issues and nutrition. Ability to develop specific dietary programs and make recommendations for individual students, faculty and staff to improve wellness and performance. Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams of staff from other departments to develop individual nutritional programs for students, faculty and staff. Ability to stimulate changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment. Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines related to the communication of student-athlete health status in the context of sport participation. Essential Duties: Provide evidence-based nutrition to student-athletes as part of SDA Nutrition department, primarily within the Football program, and across assigned Olympic teams. Assure department protocols for medical and performance nutrition needs are implemented department-wide, including nutrient deficiency, injury and surgery, body composition, and other protocols. Establish proper medical and performance nutrition focused plans for student-athletes in accordance with their health and performance needs, including training, competition, recovery, hydration, travel, nutrient deficiency, bone health, digestive health, REDs and disordered eating, and more. Work with multidisciplinary teams (Physician, ATC, Strength and Conditioning, Sport Coaches, Sports Psychologist, etc.) to implement nutritional options to improve the nutritional status of student-athletes. Documents and communicates medical nutrition therapy and essential student-athlete health information in the electronic medical record keeping systems, following appropriate documentation standards and protocols. Performs and interprets body composition assessments. Calculates student-athlete nutritional requirements. Educates student-athletes on the risks of athletic banned substances and highlights the critical importance of using third-party tested supplements to maintain safety and comply with NCAA and SDA regulations. Assists with menu planning and operation of department-provided meals. Conducts evidence-based sports nutrition education, providing visual and verbal education, including but not limited to grocery store tours, cooking demonstrations, educational handouts, digital media, and presentations. Assist in the management of nutrition provided for training, practice, competition, and in centralized nutrition areas such as fueling stations and on field. Assist in planning and execution of football team travel to Camp Tontozona, away games, international travel, and/or bowl games. Assist with supervision of fellows, graduate students, and student workers. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Earned a bachelor's degree with course work approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Coursework typically includes food and nutrition sciences, foodservice systems management, business, economics, computer science, sociology, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology and chemistry. Completed an accredited, supervised practice program at a health-care facility, community agency or foodservice corporation. Passed a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Completes continuing professional education requirements to maintain registration. Desired Qualifications: Master's Degree in nutrition, dietetics, exercise science, or other related field preferred. At least one year of related experience in a sports nutrition setting. Demonstrated experience providing nutrition care for clinical needs such as nutrient deficiencies, injury and surgery, allergies, bone health, digestive health. Evidence of supplement screening experience. Experience conducting hydration testing to assess, plan, and develop individualized hydration strategies for student-athletes. Experience in assessing athletes' performance nutrition and medical nutrition needs. Demonstrated experience in developing specific nutritional programs and recommendations for athletes to improve wellness and performance. Demonstrated experience working with multidisciplinary teams of staff from other departments to develop individual and team nutritional programs. Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) preferred. Experience with TeamWorks athlete management systems. Demonstrated team travel and hotel planning experience. Demonstrated experience conducting and interpreting athlete hydration assessments. Experience with electronic medical record keeping systems. Evidence of excellent interpersonal communication skills.
