Job Description

Title: Maintenance Mechanic - Food Manufacturer Location: Greater Boston, MA Salary: $30- $35/HR + Great Bonus & Benefits Package Job Type: Direct hire, Full-time Shift: Day About the Role: As a Maintenance Technician, you'll keep our high-speed production lines running safely and efficiently by executing preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on processing and packaging equipment. You'll troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues; support production startups/changeovers; and uphold food safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities: Equipment Reliability & Troubleshooting Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on production equipment: dough mixers, dough dividers, presses/sheeters, ovens/fryers, proofers/coolers, conveyors, baggers, sealers, metal detectors, and checkweighers. Troubleshoot controls (PLCs, HMIs, sensors, relays), AC/DC motors, VFDs, photoeyes, encoders, and safety circuits. Perform line changeovers, setups, calibrations, and adjustments to minimize downtime and defects (wrinkling, weight variance, bake color). Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Execute PMs and lubrication routes; document findings in the CMMS; escalate recurring failures and parts needs. Support PdM tools (thermal/IR, vibration, ultrasound) where applicable; replace wear parts proactively (belts, bearings, chains, seals, nozzles). Assist with oven/fryer burner tuning, thermal profiling, and airflow checks for bake uniformity and throughput. Food Safety, Quality & Compliance Work within GMP, HACCP, SQF/BRC requirements; maintain sanitary design and hygienic repair practices (food-grade lubricants, allergen segregation, tool control). Support metal detector and checkweigher verification, scale calibration, and documentation. Follow LOTO, machine guarding, NFPA 70E, and facility safety policies; complete safety work permits and JSAs as required. Utilities & Facilities Support utilities as trained: compressed air systems, boilers (steam), chilled water/glycol, HVAC, and (if applicable) ammonia refrigeration (evaporators, valves-assist licensed operators). Perform basic fabrication (welding, cutting, machining) for guards, brackets, and sanitary modifications. Maintain lighting, doors, drains, dock equipment, and general facility infrastructure. Continuous Improvement & Documentation Identify root causes, implement corrective and preventive actions (RCCA/5-Why), and contribute to TPM/5S and Kaizen events. Maintain accurate work orders, parts usage, and equipment history in CMMS; collaborate with production and QA on downtimes and quality issues. Support installation/commissioning of new lines, upgrades, sensors, and safety devices; read/interpret technical drawings and OEM manuals. Qualifications: Required 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience in food & beverage or high-speed manufacturing. Proficiency in mechanical/electrical troubleshooting: bearings, gearboxes, chains/sprockets, pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, VFDs, sensors, relays. Experience with processing and packaging equipment Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and P&IDs; basic PLC/HMI familiarity (Allen-Bradley/Siemens a plus). Strong safety mindset with working knowledge of LOTO, machine guarding, and electrical safety (70E). Comfortable using CMMS, digital work orders, and basic MS Office/Teams. Preferred Baking/ or any food/beverage experience (press/sheeter/oven/fryer setup and tuning). Basic PLC troubleshooting (I/O forcing, ladder logic navigation-no programming required). Sanitary welding/fabrication (TIG/MIG), stainless repairs, conveying alignment, and belt tracking. Boiler/steam systems, compressed air dryers/filters, and refrigeration exposure (IIAR training a plus). Certifications: OSHA-10/30, NFPA 70E, Ammonia Awareness, Forklift/Aerial Lift. Bilingual English/Spanish helpful in a diverse, fast-paced environment. Physical & Work Environment Stand/walk for extended periods; lift/pull/push up to 50 lbs; climb ladders; work on platforms. Exposure to heat (ovens/fryers), humidity, and cold rooms; occasional wet environments during sanitation. PPE required (safety shoes, eye/ear protection, cut-resistant gloves, etc.). Overtime, weekends, and on-call rotation as needed to support production. #JDP
