Learn more about Burlington's unique parks and facilities. What you will do: The City of Burlington's Recreation & Parks Department is hiring senior lifeguards for Burlington Aquatic facilities. Shifts are flexible, with availability seven days a week, including high demand for daytime shifts during the school year. Senior lifeguards ensure public safety by supervising patrons, enforcing safety regulations, and performing general pool and facility maintenance. The role also involves cleaning and other assigned duties. Participation in mandatory in-service training is required. Work Schedule: Hours/days will vary based on facility need and staff availability. Examples of DutiesRule Enforcement & Facility Monitoring: Assist in enforcing pool rules and regulations, ensuring safe and orderly operations. Monitor activities and operations at the City pool facility to maintain safety. Customer Service & Public Communication: Provide information and answer questions regarding pool rules, regulations, policies, and aquatic programs. Respond to complaints and refer them to the appropriate staff for further action. Emergency Response & Safety: Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, maintaining order and discipline during incidents. Administer First Aid and CPR when needed, and perform rescues as required. Facility Maintenance & Cleaning: Perform routine cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, and restocking restrooms. Skim and vacuum the pool, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene. Hazard Identification & Equipment Inspection: Conduct daily inspections of pool equipment and supplies, reporting hazards or maintenance issues to supervisors. Record Keeping & Reporting: Assist in filing written records, including composing reports as required and submitting them on time. Training & Skill Development: Participate in continuing education and training, attending all in-service sessions and physical fitness drills. Public Relations & Water Safety: Promote water safety awareness with a professional attitude, offering courteous service and maintaining a focus on public safety. Other Responsibilities: Perform additional duties as assigned by management. QualificationsAquatic Safety Knowledge & Procedures: In-depth understanding of aquatic safety principles, rules, regulations, and emergency action protocols. Proficient in the proper use and maintenance of safety and rescue equipment. Familiar with techniques for aquatic facility maintenance and operations. Policy Adherence & Regulatory Compliance: Knowledgeable about the policies and procedures of the County Parks department and pool facility. Aware of and complies with relevant federal, state, and local laws, codes, and safety regulations related to aquatic and recreational facilities. Public Interaction & Communication: Maintain a positive, cooperative demeanor while interacting with the public. Respond to public concerns and complaints with courtesy and tact. Effectively communicate with youth, adults, and senior citizens, both orally and in writing. Decision-Making & Emergency Response: Utilize sound decision-making skills in various situations. Apply First Aid, CPR, and AED techniques effectively in emergency situations. Perform basic rescue operations and other emergency procedures as needed. Rule Enforcement & Facility Operations: Enforce facility rules firmly yet tactfully, ensuring a safe and respectful environment. Adapt to various shift assignments as required by operational needs. Minimum Qualifications: Reliable transportation. Must be 16 years of age or older. American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification with CPR PRO Two years of lifeguard experience Certifications: Water Safety Instructor Certificate(WSI), Lifeguard Instructor Certificate(LGI), Certified pool operator(CPO) The City of Burlington does not offer benefits to part-time positions which require less than 1000 work hours per calendar year. 01 Are you at least 16 years of age?
