We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.Overview Joby Aviation is seeking an experienced Cabin Design Engineer to join our Airframe team here in Santa Cruz, CA. This is an exciting role involving managing the design, development, certification, and testing of the interior of the Joby aircraft. In this position, the individual will have a balanced responsibility of designing components, managing suppliers, system engineering, and certification. This role integrates the incredibly important balance of designing a product for our future customers to enjoy with the rigors of engineering a world-class aircraft. A strong knowledge of metallics, composites, assembly & integration techniques, GD&T, drafting standards and certification test experience are all highly desirable. This is an exciting position for team players who like to create well-balanced products.ResponsibilitiesDevelop concepts and mechanical designs using sound 1st principal engineering principlesCradle to grave design support–everything from conceptual development through design reviews through release and manufacturing supportEnsuring seat designs meet all performance and certification requirementsCollaboration with engineering and certification teams to incorporate best practicesSupply chain managementAbility and willingness to work across multi-disciplinary teams ranging from certification system engineering to manufacturing techniciansCreation of technical drawings and bill of materialsSupport of certification process through documentation and testing RequiredB.S. in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant discipline8 years of work experience in a relevant industryAbility to visualize complex 3D systemsKeen eye for detail and willingness to design to strict aerospace standardsAbility to select appropriate materials, coatings, and hardware to support designExcellent teamwork and communication skillsProficiency with CADExperience making engineering drawings and GD&TFamiliarity with FEM and hand calculations for structural sizingDesiredM.S/Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant discipline12+ years of work experience in a relevant industry, aerospace knowledge preferredHands‑on experience designing and building parts in Aluminum, titanium, composite, plastic, and foam.Certification experience to FAR Part 23/25/27/29Cabin/interior aerospace design experienceSpecific certification experience with aircraft seatsExperience with Dassault Systemes CATIA Part Design, Generative Shape design and Assembly DesignAdditional Information Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $140,500 - $185,000/yr.
