Veterinary Medical Officer (Clinical Care) NF-04 This position is located at the Twentynine Palms Veterinary Treatment Facility. Incentives and bonuses are not paid. Salary is pro-rated based on a 40-hour workweek. ($45.52ph to $52.71ph) The position is open to U.S. citizens and non-U.S. nationals who have resided in the U.S. or U.S. territory for three or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of federal affiliation. Duties Serves as the clinic veterinarian performing wellness appointments on a population of privately-owned animals and advising owners on proper immunizations and disease prevention. Examine animals, treat diseases and injuries, conduct surgeries. Perform administrative duties such as maintaining legal medical health records. Collect body tissue, feces, blood, urine, and other body fluids for examination and diagnostic testing. Performs and interprets laboratory findings. Issues health certificates. Provides direction and oversight to Animal Health Assistants with regards to veterinary nursing skills, veterinary medical standards, and animal care. Requirements Direct deposit and social security card is required. Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position. A one-year probationary period may be required. Must not have an aversion to animals, blood, bodily fluids, animal tissues, strong odors, needles, or sharp instruments. Must be able to stand for long periods, restrain animals, kneel, reach, etc. Ability to obtain/renew United States Department of Agriculture/Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) accreditation within first 60-days of employment. Ability to work occasional Saturdays for special events - as needed by management. A successful background investigation submission to the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) must be met no later than 30 calendar days after entry on duty or placement in the position for internal candidates. Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability determination. Physical requirements include the ability to lift animals and supplies up to 45 pounds, and on occasion greater than 45 pounds with the help of others. Long periods of standing, walking, restraining, kneeling, and reaching, etc. Must have use of fingers; Both hand and both legs are required; Position requires exposure to intermittent excessive noise. Must be able to receive all mandated immunizations to work in a direct-patient capacity and/or veterinary environment IAW AR 40-562 chap 4-1. Qualifications Resumes must be two pages (or less). A qualified candidate must possess the following: Possess a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA). Possess a valid unrestricted state license to practice veterinary medicine (may be a valid state license from any US state). Official transcripts must be provided prior to time of hire. Unofficial college/university transcripts may be uploaded for initial qualification screening. In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Possess active United States Department of Agriculture/Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) accreditation. This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
