Super Splash Lifeguards Dive into Summer Fun with Us! Now Hiring Super Splash Lifeguards! Are you ready to make a splash this summer? We're on the lookout for dynamic and enthusiastic lifeguards to join our aquatic adventure team! If you've got a passion for water safety, a love for the sun, and the energy to keep our pool vibes top-notch, we want to hear from you! Under general supervision, ensures the safety of patrons of an aquatic facility by preventing hazardous situations and responding to emergencies. Lead responsibilities may be assigned. The position reports to an assigned supervisor. Location: Southwest or Highland Recreation Center Work Schedule: Hours and shifts vary for this position from week to week and will include weekends, evenings, and holidays over the summer. Assignment: The schedule is determined weekly and can vary up to 40 hours. All employees share components of leadership, management, technical, and team skills to assist in making the City of Largo the community of choice in Tampa Bay. Leadership Demonstrates an understanding and reflection of the City's mission, vision, and values and a commitment to achieve organizational goals aligned with the City's strategic plan Champions a high performance work culture that encourages and embraces new ideas, develops individuals and welcomes and encourages diverse perspectives Articulates strategic and innovative thinking and provides clarity to deliver superior services Approaches the job with enthusiasm and curiosity to promote a solutions-oriented work culture Management Effectively manages assignments and priorities to ensure the fulfillment of projects, tasks, and responsibilities Follows suggested procedures to assure the highest standards of risk management, employee safety and risk avoidance Technical Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency Supervises and patrols the pool area to ensure an enjoyable experience for all patrons and regulates activities which may be injurious to others or to public property; handles disruptions in an appropriate manner Rescues swimmers when they are in danger; applies emergency lifesaving and first aid techniques; and in case of severe injuries, obtains professional aid immediately Gives swimming instructions and handles appropriate documentation Presents a professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer service Prepares clear and detailed accident reports Answers and responds to customer inquiries Cleans the pool facility with a variety of pool equipment Responsible for the opening and closing of each facility which includes cleaning bathrooms and operating cash registers Works City- and Division-wide events Performs related clerical and cashier (some positions) duties Additional Summer Responsibilities: Seasonal Pool Coordinator (eligible for additional $2 per hour incentive) Team Skills Supports honest and transparent decision-making Collaborates with all team members in a way that builds upon ideas and takes personal accountability and ownership of projects, roles, and assignments Openly exhibits a positive attitude, in words and action, and encourages others to do the same Performs related work as required. As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is required Adult/Infant/Child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and automated external defibrillator (AED) Certifications are required Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certifications are preferred Some position require a valid driver's license Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of modern lifesaving techniques and procedures Skill in swimming, instruction, and supervision of swimmers in the area of preventive safety methods Ability to: react calmly and effectively in emergency situations establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and patrons focus for extended periods of time prepare routine reports, paperwork, etc. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work Environment: 25% inside a climate controlled building; 75% outside in hot, humid or inclement weather. Physical Requirements: The essential functions of the job require: sitting approximately four (4) hours per day, and standing and walking approximately four (4) hours in any assigned eight (8) hour shift (or prorated based on the number of hours per shift). The work requires frequent: bending/stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to 15 pounds, lifting/carrying of objects weighing 15 to 44 pounds; often requires lifting/carrying objects weighing 45 pounds and over. Sensory Requirements: Hearing: Enough to understand what others are saying in normal conversation in person and on the telephone, and the ability to detect specific noises. Speaking: Enough to communicate orally with others in person, on the telephone, and to cry out for help when needed. Seeing: Enough to see and read computer screens, spot swimmers, and read fine print. Driving Requirements: Some positions may require a valid Florida Driver's License, depending on assignment. Technology: The work requires ability to operate telephones, smart phones, tablets, photocopiers, printers, desktop and/or laptop computers, calculators and all associated software. Tools: The work requires proficiency with chemical reagents, vacuums, and pressure cleaners.
