Job Summary The Customs Entry Writer is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and processing all documentation required to clear imported goods through U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This role ensures compliance with U.S. Customs laws and regulations while serving as a liaison between customers, carriers, government agencies, bonded facilities, and CBP under the supervision of a licensed Customs House Broker. Key Responsibilities Customs Entry & Compliance Prepare and submit U.S. Customs entries in accordance with CBP regulations under the supervision of a designated Customs House Broker. Ensure all entries and supporting documentation comply with U.S. Customs laws and regulatory requirements. Review shipment documentation to ensure accuracy of declared values, country of origin, terms of sale, SLAC counts, and other required data. Classify goods and determine applicable duty rates using CBP rules, regulations, and tariff schedules. Prepare and file all required documentation with CBP to facilitate the timely clearance of goods into the United States. Entry Types & Regulatory Knowledge Maintain thorough knowledge of all entry types, including but not limited to Formal, Informal, Warehouse Entry/Withdrawal, Carnets, TIB, IT, IE, T&E, and related transactions. Stay current with CBP regulations, procedures, and continuing education requirements related to customs classification and entry processing. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulations and procedures issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and other federal and state agencies governing the importation and transportation of goods, including hazardous materials, food products, and live animals. Customer & Partner Support Maintain and update customer and importer profiles to ensure compliance and accuracy. Communicate with customers, overseas partners, carriers, warehouses, and customs officials via email, fax, and other correspondence. Act as an intermediary between airlines, steamship lines, trucking companies, bonded warehouses, shippers, consignees, and CBP to resolve issues and facilitate clearance. Process ACH statement payments to CBP. Additional Responsibilities Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualification Standards Education & Experience High School diploma or GED required. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in importing, customs brokerage, or freight forwarding. Basic ISO training required. Valid drivers license required. Ability to apply basic math skills to calculate duties, freight charges, storage, and related costs. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and paperless entry systems used for CBP filings. Physical Requirements Light physical work, including lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally. Adequate near vision to accurately read and prepare written and electronic documentation.
