Lifeguard The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department is now accepting applications for Lifeguard. General Duties: Under close supervision organizes and conducts a well-balanced aquatic program at the Culver City Municipal Pool. Supervises pool deck, enforces regulations, prevents accidents and effects rescues. Assists with pool maintenance and operation and the testing of chemicals. Maintains pool records, attends staff meetings and service training programs. Performs other related duties. Schedule: This is a part-time position; hours will vary depending on department needs. Applicants must be available to work evenings and weekends. Vacation is not permitted during the entire summer. Attendance at all in-service training is mandatory. One Time Sign-On Bonus: Incentive amount of $1,500. $500 paid within two pay periods after employment commences, $500 upon successful completion of 100 working hours, $500 upon successful completion of 500 working hours. PLEASE NOTE: INCENTIVES PAYMENTS WILL ONLY BE ISSUED AFTER THE SPECIFIED MILESTONES ARE VERIFIED. Minimum Requirements: Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and ability would be: experience in supervising the use and safety of swimming pools and must be at least 16 years of age. Under 18 or still in high school? A valid work permit is required to be eligible for hire. Required Certificates: The following valid certificates are required and must be attached to the application: CPR Certificate First-Aid Certificate Lifeguard Training Certificate Note: The Culver City Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department will be offering certification courses to applicants who are interested in this position but do not possess the required certificates. Lifeguard Training Course: Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. There is a cost for the course. Applicants who successfully complete the Lifeguard Training course will receive a certificate from American Red Coss for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED that is valid for 2 years. Planned Dates for Lifeguard Training Course in 2026: March 14, 2026 & March 15, 2026 April 18, 2026 & April 19, 2026 May 16, 2026 & May 17, 2026 June 13, 2026 & June 14, 2026 July 11, 2026 & July 12, 2026 Suitability for the position will be evaluated with a Performance Test and an Oral Appraisal interview. The Performance Test will measure the ability to perform life saving techniques. This test will be qualifying, i.e., it will determine who will be invited to the Oral Appraisal Interview. The interview will evaluate training, experience and personal qualifications and will be weighted at 100%. You must first pass the swim test for Lifeguard to be invited to interview. The swim test consists of four exercises: 500-yard swim in under 10 minutes- Must demonstrate one lap of Breaststroke, side stroke and elementary backstroke. Tread Water without hands for 2:00 minutes 100 Freestyle under 1:30 seconds Submerged Victim Rescue (swim 25 yards, rescue victim at bottom of pool, remove from water & perform 1 minute of CPR) The provisions of this job posting do not constitute a contract, express or implied, and any provisions in this posting may be modified or revoked without notice.
