Stevedore Superintendent The Gloucester Marine Terminal is operated by Gloucester Terminals LLC and offers stevedoring and break bulk services. The terminal, located in the Port of Philadelphia has direct access to highways as well as three rail lines that transit across the United States and Canada, providing unrivaled turnaround times for our partners. Position Summary: The Stevedore Superintendent will manage the loading, unloading, and handling of cargo at the terminal or dockside. This role ensures that operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant regulations. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a deep understanding of maritime and cargo operations. Key Responsibilities: Supervise and coordinate the work of stevedore crews during cargo loading and unloading operations. Ensure adherence to safety regulations, operational standards, and company policies. Plan and schedule labor, equipment, and resources to meet operational needs. Monitor cargo handling to prevent damage and ensure proper stowage. Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections to identify and resolve issues. Provide on-the-job training and guidance to team members. Address operational challenges and respond to emergencies promptly. Collaborate with vessel representatives, terminal staff, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless operations. Maintain accurate records of cargo movement, labor hours, and incidents. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certifications in maritime logistics, transportation, or a related field is preferred. Experience in stevedore or cargo operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Comprehensive knowledge of cargo handling techniques, port operations, and safety protocols. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment, including irregular hours, weekends, and holidays. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Effective communication skills for interacting with diverse teams and stakeholders.
