The Regional Medical Director (RMD) is a key developmental role leading to the Market Chief Medical Officer position. This role oversees clinical strategy and care delivery across multiple markets within a specified region. Working alongside the Regional Chief Medical Officer and being an integral part of the Executive Management team, the RMD will enhance clinical leadership by defining success metrics and unlocking key opportunities for clinical improvement tailored to their regional markets. The RMD will also collaborate with senior leaders to drive operational success, financial growth, and strong partnerships with organizations in the market. As a licensed Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), the RMD will also maintain an active clinical practice by providing direct patient care services. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: In collaboration with the Regional Chief Medical Officer: Oversee medical services for one to two markets, ensuring effective care model execution, performance outcomes, and clinical talent management. Deliver direct patient care services, dedicating up to 40% of your time to patient interactions. Work with clinical leaders to define care model components and identify key opportunities for clinical value in the region. Develop, review, and execute clinical protocols, performance objectives, and compliance measures across designated markets. Build strong partnerships with the Market President and/or General Manager to implement effective workflows and quality improvement initiatives. Establish primary and multi-specialty care teams with ancillary services for coordinated healthcare delivery, enhancing patient experience and outcomes. Champion the use of customized technology to support the care model and improve practice performance. Represent the organization with external partners, fostering collaborative relationships that align with the care model. Participate in the hiring and evaluation of clinical team members, providing mentorship and guidance in best practices. Promote wellness and prevent complications from chronic conditions to invest in patients’ long-term health. Engage in leadership, strategic planning, and financial discussions to drive organizational success. Perform any additional duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong business acumen and insight. Extensive knowledge of health center operations, including legal, regulatory, and policy frameworks. Familiarity with healthcare network strategy and value-based care contracting. A deep commitment to providing integrated, value-based healthcare for underserved communities. Ability to foster relationships and motivate staff while promoting team building. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Creative problem-solving abilities. Sensitivity to diverse populations. Emotional resilience to navigate challenging interactions effectively. Proficient with Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications. Willingness to travel up to 60% of the time and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Ability to relocate as necessary to support business needs. Fluency in both spoken and written English; multilingual is preferred. Capability to exercise independent judgment.
