Job Title: Medical Lab Technician Job Description We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Lab Technician to join our team in Birmingham. This role involves performing routine and complex technical procedures and functions, ensuring accurate and timely test results, and maintaining a safe work environment. This is a contract-to-hire position offering longevity with a reputable company. Responsibilities Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria. Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures. Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality. Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving. Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls. Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care. Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures. Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary. Assist with processing of specimens when needed. Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Essential Skills AS or BS in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory CLIA State requirements. Minimum 0-2 years of clinical laboratory testing experience is required - previous hospital experience is preferred Experience with Microbiology testing/department, including plate reading and gram staining. Proficiency with Cerner or Epic systems. ASCP or AMT certification is preferred or required, depending on state requirements. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Proficient with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems. High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills. Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen. Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology is preferred. State Medical Technologist license may be required, depending on the requirement. Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus. Work Environment The position is based at a hospital located at Birmingham, AL. You will be supporting the Micro department within the Core Lab, specifically during the 2nd shift from 12pm to 11pm. The environment emphasizes safety, requiring appropriate personal protective equipment. Training will be provided for specific tasks such as reading plates and gram stains. Please note that this is a contract-to-hire position with potential conversion based on experience. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
