Role Overview We are looking for a Voice AI Staff Engineer to act as a technical leader and architect for Datavant's innovative Voice AI and Agentic Agent platforms. This position involves not just coding but also shaping the technical direction, establishing architecture standards, and mentoring fellow engineers while designing production-grade Voice AI systems that operate at enterprise scale. Your main responsibilities will include owning the design and evolution of LLM-driven, voice-first workflows across CCaaS, IVA, and internal automation platforms, ensuring they are secure, observable, compliant, and resilient. You will collaborate closely with Product, Security, Telecom/UCC, and Data teams to translate strategy into effective systems. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Architecture Be the Staff-level technical owner for Voice AI and Agentic Agent architecture. Establish reference architectures, best practices, and design patterns for Voice LLM workflows and integrations. Lead strategic decision-making for platform selection and scalability challenges. Voice AI & Agentic Workflow Engineering Design and implement end-to-end Voice AI systems utilizing LLMs, NLMs, NLP/NLU, STT, and TTS technologies. Create agentic, multi-step conversational workflows featuring tool use, memory, escalation, and human handoff capabilities. Optimize real-time Voice AI performance in terms of latency, accuracy, and reliability. Platform & Integration Engineering Architect and develop API-first, event-driven systems that link CCaaS platforms, data pipelines, and AI services. Integrate with CCaaS and Voice platforms such as Five9, Genesys, NICE, or similar. Maintain clear interfaces among AI agents, telecom infrastructure, and downstream systems. Security, Compliance & Reliability Collaborate with Security and Legal to secure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and privacy standards across Voice AI workflows. Implement observability and reporting for AI decisions and conversational outcomes. Design systems that are resilient, testable, and ready for production deployment. Mentorship & Cross-Functional Influence Guide mid-level and senior engineers in AI, Voice, and distributed systems design. Impact roadmap and prioritization through solid technical collaboration with Product and Leadership. Enhance technical standards through reviews, documentation, and shared best practices. Required Qualifications 8+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on AI, automation, or platform engineering. Extensive hands-on experience with Voice AI systems, including LLMs, NLMs, NLP/NLU, STT, and TTS. Proficiency in designing real-time conversational workflows and autonomous AI systems. Experience in API architecture, distributed systems, and third-party integrations. Familiarity with CCaaS/Voice platforms (e.g., Five9, Genesys, NICE). Strong skills in Python or another modern backend programming language (Node.js, Java, Go). Ability to provide technical leadership without direct authority. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with AI orchestration frameworks like LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, or similar. Knowledge of deploying AI systems on AWS (certification is a plus). Familiarity with telecom, IVR, call routing, and speech pipelines. Experience in analytics, telemetry, and reporting platforms (e.g., Power BI, Fivetran, MuleSoft). Prior work operating AI systems in regulated environments. Why Join Datavant? The estimated total cash compensation range for this role is $153,000-$180,000 USD.
