Description: CVOR/Surgical Assistant role, not a surgical technologist. The facility is a Level III Trauma Center and Magnet Designation. It is also a Comprehensive Stroke Center. The facility has 938 beds. On average, 10 cases occur per day. Patient types include cardio and thoracic surgeries. These procedures range from CABG, TAVR, and valve replacements to thoracic cases, which are robotic. Other responsibilities include generator exchanges, lead extractions, heart transplants, and fem-pop bypass surgeries. The surgical team will always consist of two RNs per case: a circulator and a med RN. Travelers will only circulate. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:1. A strong CVOR background across all specialties is essential. Independent work with minimal guidance in various cases is required. Experience in a fast-paced environment is crucial. Support on the unit includes a department supervisor and manager. A team lead is available without case assignment. Anesthesia is available 24/7. Surgical assistants will lead with instrumentation and preference cards. There is a house supervisor available 24/7. Weekend support includes a small weekend program staff shared with a supervisor for all operating rooms. The charting system used is EPIC (required). Other equipment includes Alaris and Pyxis. There is no floating between units. Anesthesia techs will float between CVOR, main operating room, and cath lab. Scheduling details include start times for techs and surgical assistants from 0530 to 0630. Weekend rotation consists of on-call only. Time off requests can be approved up to 7 days. On-call requirements consist of once per month for the weekend, with a 24-hour call. End of shift call may occur up to once a week with a 30-minute response time. No sleep room is available on-site.
