This position involves tackling diverse challenges of varying complexities, from moderate to significant. We are seeking a passionate Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Lead to take ownership of production reliability for our enterprise platforms. This hands-on leadership role focuses on automation, observability, multi-cloud reliability, and leading incident responses. You will mentor engineers, manage on-call activities, and provide valuable reliability insights to senior stakeholders, without formal people management responsibilities. Role Overview The SRE Lead is responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of our mission-critical systems. By collaborating closely with application, platform, and cloud teams, you will implement SRE best practices, enhance automation, and bolster observability across various application stacks. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong ownership of production systems, and the ability to mentor engineers while influencing reliability outcomes across teams. Lead reliability engineering initiatives for enterprise-level, critical application stacks. Engage hands-on in automation and production troubleshooting. Participate in on-call rotations, major incident response efforts, and conduct post-incident reviews. Design and deploy automation-first solutions to minimize manual tasks and enhance system reliability. Define, implement, and maintain Service Level Objectives (SLOs), Service Level Indicators (SLIs), and error budgets. Provide technical guidance across multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP). Promote observability standards, including metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting. Leverage AI and GenAI capabilities to enhance monitoring, incident analysis, and operational workflows. Review system designs and changes for scalability, resilience, and operability. Mentor and support SREs and engineers through design reviews, incident response, and knowledge sharing. Summarize reliability metrics, incidents, and risks in clear reports for senior leadership. Possess substantial hands-on experience supporting various production application stacks. Exhibit advanced skills in automation, scripting, and CI/CD (Python, Go, Shell, Terraform). Demonstrate proven experience in operating within multi-cloud environments. Have a deep understanding of distributed systems, Linux, networking, and cloud-native architectures. Show expertise in observability tools and best practices. Have experience leading on-call rotations and incident response efforts. Exhibit a strong ability to mentor engineers and enhance overall team capabilities. Communicate effectively, translating technical issues clearly for senior stakeholders. Make a difference with your skills! Required Qualifications 7+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, or production engineering roles. Prior experience in a Lead SRE or senior technical role with accountability for reliability outcomes. Hands-on experience in large-scale enterprise production environments. Familiarity with AI or GenAI implementation in engineering or operational contexts. Experience in complex or regulated environments is an advantage. Preferred Qualifications Advanced Degree (MBA or similar) Proven ability to manage large-scale, high-visibility programs with multiple project teams. Comprehensive understanding of operations, technology, communications, and processes. Six Sigma certification ITIL certification Additional Information Work-from-Home Requirements Must have high-speed DSL or cable modem access for a home office. Associates or contractors residing and working from home in California will receive reimbursement for internet expenses. A minimum standard speed of 25x10 (25mbps download x 10mbps upload) is required. Satellite and wireless internet services are NOT permissible for this role. A dedicated workspace that is free from ongoing interruptions is essential to protect member PHI/HIPAA information. Travel: Although this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be necessary. Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Pay Range The compensation range reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full-time employment (40 hours per week) at the time of posting. Actual pay may vary based on geographic location and individual qualifications. $117,600 - $161,700 per year This role is eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on company and/or individual performance.
