Statement of Duties:This position is located in the Gallup Indian Medical Center, Gallup Service Unit, and Navajo Area in Gallup, New Mexico. Gallup Indian Medical Center is a combination of a comprehensive inpatient facility, outpatient clinics, and 24 hour Emergency Department. Gallup Indian Medical Center receives over 250,000 outpatient visits per year through the Ambulatory Care Department. The following medical specialties exist: General Surgery, Orthopedics, Internal Medicine, Urology, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Neurology, Cardiology, Podiatry, Dental, ENT, and Ophthalmology. This position is located in the Ambulatory Treatment Room which is operated under the Nursing Resources Division of the Gallup Indian Medical Center. The incumbent evaluates the nursing needs of patients, develops a plan of nursing care, initiates patient care assignments, implements and modifies them as needs change; provides or directs the provision of comprehensive nursing care, delegates duties to appropriate personnel, teaches and supervises their work as needed. Participates in the evaluation of the quality of patient care. • The incumbent is responsible for the general operation of the Ambulatory (infusion) Treatment Room. • The Registered Nurse performs a variety of nursing care procedures and treatments for Outpatient and Emergency Services to a variety of patients. o This requires the nurse to have professional knowledge and consideration of specific patient conditions and treatments. • Works independently with minimal supervision utilizing nursing skills, knowledge, and abilities to provide the required nursing care. • Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician or medical provider, such as medication, treatment, intravenous fluids, medication infusions, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, nasogastric tubes, and Foley catheters as well as central lines, PICC lines, and/or other central ports, and assists with paracentesis. • Services provided on both a scheduled and unscheduled basis. • Provides acute nursing services to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, and sociocultural needs of the acutely and chronically ill patient. • Observes, assesses, and stabilizes acutely and chronically ill pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient's health status by physical assessment and examination, interviewing patient and family members, and reviewing patient's health history. • Interprets data obtained from observations, examination, monitoring, and laboratory values. Distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings, providing appropriate care measures. • Observes for allergic or hypersensitivity reactions to medications administered and takes appropriate action should either occur. • Records and documents observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, hemodynamic monitoring data, and other data as relevant to the patients care. • Schedules tests with other departments to facilitate procedures such as ultrasound, EEG, CT, MRI, and MRB per order. • Is certified and administers chemotherapeutic agents according to physician order and established protocols. • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in assessment, management, and follow-up care of extravasation. Assures patient comfort and provides anti-emetic as indicated and ordered. • Gives updated medication to RSV prone children and their families. Administers immunizations to high-risk patients or chronic disease children and their family members. • Provides allergy injections according to written, patient specific protocols. o Treats reactions according to protocol. • Checks appropriate laboratory data prior to drug administration and notifies physician of results. • Maintains current certification to administer agents of conscious sedation. • Fosters patient motivation and compliance to adhering to required routines by counseling and assisting patients to understand and accept implications of care, diagnosis, and treatment. • Provides teaching and promotes counseling services to patient families, and the facility staff as necessary to help understand disease prevention and health maintenance. Job Summary As a Registered Nurse, will oversee patient care provided by the healthcare team using a professional practice model. Contribute to peers' development, show community service commitment. What Will Make You Successful In The Role A deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures. Know nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area. Understand hospital procedures and rules. Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common meds, and their side effects. Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights. Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing. Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties. Qualifications Grad of an Accredited Program Specialized field of study should be nursing. A current and valid nursing license.
