Job Description We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced CAD Manager to lead and mentor a small team of CAD operators. The CAD Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing all computer-aided design (CAD) activities for a metal manufacturing organization specializing in architectural branding elements such as metal awnings, trellises, and custom-fabricated structures. This role ensures accurate, efficient, and manufacturable designs while maintaining CAD standards across AutoCAD and Fusion 360 platforms. The CAD Manager partners closely with Engineering, Sales, Manufacturing, and Installation teams to translate architectural intent into high-quality fabricated products. Key Responsibilities: Directly supervise, schedule, and prioritize the work of a team of CAD drafters. Develop, implement, and enforce CAD standards, templates, layering conventions, and best practices for AutoCAD and Fusion 360. Manage and maintain CAD software systems, licenses, updates, and integrations. Oversee the creation and control of 2D drawings and 3D models for custom architectural metal products. Ensure designs meet structural requirements, fabrication capabilities, and installation constraints. Establish and maintain part libraries, parametric models, blocks, and standard details for metal components. Review and approve drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability prior to release. Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and revision control throughout the project lifecycle. Identify and implement process improvements to reduce errors, rework, and design cycle time. Lead, train, mentor, and formally supervise CAD drafters; conduct performance reviews, coaching, and skill development planning. Act as the primary escalation point for complex CAD, modeling, or detailing challenges. Collaborate with Sales and Project Management to support custom design requests and customer submittals. Partner with Manufacturing and Installation teams to resolve design issues and improve fabrication and field outcomes. Evaluate and recommend new tools, workflows, or automation within AutoCAD and Fusion 360. Engage in clear and constructive communication with team members and leadership to foster teamwork and open dialogue with peers and management. Consistently embody and uphold the company's values and principles in every task and responsibility. Required: 7 plus years of CAD experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment. Preferably architectural or structural metal. Strong knowledge of structural and mechanical principles, drafting standards, and regulatory compliance. Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (2D detailing) and 3D modeling (Fusion 360 experience preferred) Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes (e.g., cutting, forming, welding, finishing). Experience creating fabrication-ready drawings, shop drawings, and installation details. Proven ability to lead, train, and mentor CAD professionals. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines effectively. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Drafting, Design Technology or related field.
