Position Type: Administration Date Posted: 3/3/2026 Location: Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Schools, ISD #2143 Activities Director / Community Education Director - 1.0 FTEFull-Time, Exempt Position - 220 Duty DaysActivities DirectorPosition Purpose To manage and coordinate the school district activities and sports programs to promote athletics, physical fitness, and extra-curricular activities, and to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to participate and share in the benefits of the district's activities programs. Essential Functions Supervises the High School's activities programs in coordination with the Principal, Superintendent and others, including recommending policies and procedures relating to the activities programs. Analyzes and evaluates existing activities programs and equipment for the purpose of ensuring that they serve the best interest of the district and the students who participate, meet applicable laws and regulations, and ensure safety of participants. Assists in the recruitment, selection, supervision and evaluation of all coaches. Serves as a consultant to administration, teaching staff, coaches and students on matters pertaining to the activities programs. Analyzes student participation and develops procedures to ensure that the maximum number of students have the opportunity to participate in activities and that the programs do not discriminate against female or minority students. Supervises the district's athletic facilities, oversees the scheduling and coordinating of practices and activities events, and disseminates information as needed regarding the times and places of activities events. Supervises and coordinates the district budget and finances for all activities programs and events, including inventory and control of uniforms, supplies and equipment. Serves as the school district representative and liaison to interscholastic league, the C.I.A.C., Booster Club and other related groups as needed. Assists in ensuring that all applicable laws and regulations relating to activities/athletics are applied and followed, including Title IX and other federal laws and regulations, state laws and regulations, and C.I.A.C. rules and regulations. Coordinates the transportation schedule and provides for safe and cost-effective transportation for off-site activities/athletics events. Assists in establishing and administering a program for passes for members of the community for activities and related events. Coordinates the selection and compensation of sports officials/referees for on-site events, and represents the district for the purpose of securing the highest possible quality of officiating. Establishes criteria for awards relating to participation and demonstrating excellence in school district activities programs, including eligibility requirements. Creates materials to publicize activities/athletic events, both in printed and electronic formats, for the purpose of disseminating information and fostering enhanced awareness among students, staff, and the community in recognizing and supporting the school's activities programs and attending events. Maintains professional relationship with media sources for the purpose of providing information regarding schedules, postponements or cancellations, activities event statistics, records, and other relevant information. Coordinates with others for the purpose of scheduling ancillary activities that occur prior to, during, and after activities events, such as musical programs, press boxes, scorers tables, half-time programs, police coverage, ticket sales, availability of on-site medical care, concessions, custodial services, and other related activities. Coordinates the taking of physical examinations of participants in athletics. Handles all accidents and injuries in accordance with school policies, and applicable laws and regulations, including reporting and documentation requirements. Maintains records and documents as required and necessary to ensure proper documentation of athletic program activities, events, participation, and related information for the purpose of complying with school policies as well as applicable laws and regulations. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding school district athletic programs, safety and health, and other areas under responsibility. Ability to evaluate, develop and implement athletic programs, activities and events, and make effective recommendations related to those areas. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Qualifications Profile Minnesota State Certification/License in related area or as required for position. Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation. Salary Range: Will be based on position qualifications, FTE, and other duties. Education Bachelor's Degree. Community Education Director Provide leadership, development, implementation and evaluation of Community Education activities, programs and services. Work in collaboration with educational partners throughout the district and the community as a whole to serve the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Public Schools community. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Program Development and Management A. Plan, organize and administer a program of community education. B. Work with district personnel, community education advisory council, outside agencies and governmental units to develop cooperative and coordinated programs. C. Administer community education programs in accordance with the state community education guidelines and school board policies. D. Responsible for program/activity registration and receipt of fees for all community education programs and activities. E. Develop, maintain, review and analyze program evaluation documents. F. Recruit and staff community education programs and activities. G. Direct work activities of employees within the community education department, supervise staff and perform evaluations. H. Coordinate community education volunteers. I. Provide in-service training for staff as deemed necessary. J. Coordinate building use for community education sponsored activities and events. K. Attend meetings, in-services and workshops as needed. Budget/Finance A. Work with the district business office to prepare the preliminary and revised annual budgets for community education programs and activities. B. Monitor revenues and oversee expenditures to ensure they conform to federal, state and local community education guidelines and do not exceed budget. C. Make recommendations regarding levies, including special needs in school age care. D. Research, prepare and follow through with grant proposals or other opportunities for supplemental funding. E. Prepare and share financial reports as needed and/or requested (conclusion of class, monthly, annually, etc.). Marketing/Reporting A. Work with staff to create materials for local advertisements and promotion of community education programs. B. Prepare reports required by the Minnesota Department of Education and other agencies or entities. C. Oversee preparation and publishing of the Community Education Program Catalog/Newsletter three times each year (Fall/Winter Winter/Spring Spring/Summer). Communication and Community Relations A. Establish and maintain partnerships with relevant agencies and organizations. B. Facilitate communication and maintain relationships with stakeholders, promote awareness of community education programs and services. C. Keep abreast of changing developments and trends in community education and lifelong learning, communicate information to stakeholders. D. Connect with city, county and collaborative stakeholders; serve on committees as appropriate. Salary Range:Starting Salary $70,000 will be based on position qualifications, FTE, and other duties. Requirements A. Must meet licensure requirements as a community education director in Minnesota.
