Position Title: Student Teller FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Department: Retail Banking Location: Home base determined at onset of employment Reports to: Branch Supervisor Supervises: None Travel: Extensive Date Last Revised: January 2026 POSITION QUALIFICATOINS: The foundation of this position is to serve the customers of the Bank. This position requires strong customer service skills and aptitude along with the desire to serve our customers needs in an outstanding fashion. This position requires strong math skills and the logical application of these skills. An aptitude for cross selling our products is a component of this position. This document in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performedby the employee occupying this position.POSITION SUMMARY: The Student Teller position is a temporary, part-time role designed for individuals who are actively enrolled as full-time college students during their period of employment. This position provides hands-on experience in retail banking while supporting daily branch operations and delivering a positive, relationship-focused customer experience. The Student Teller assists customers with routine banking transactions, follows established policies and procedures, and demonstrates attention to accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance. This role emphasizes professionalism, reliability, and strong customer service skills while learning foundational banking practices and developing effective communication skills. Student Tellers are expected to build positive relationships with customers by engaging respectfully, identifying basic needs, and referring customers to appropriate branch resources when needed. They work collaboratively with branch staff, maintain a welcoming branch environment, and uphold the bank's service standards and values. Employment in this role is evaluated at the end of each summer period to determine continued eligibility and potential reappointment for future employment periods, based on performance, business needs, and ongoing full-time student status. Success in this role requires a commitment to learning, strong attention to detail, a customer-focused mindset, and the ability to balance work responsibilities with academic commitments while maintaining full-time enrollment. Essential Functions Responsible for comprehensive, prompt, and efficient customer transactions. Receives/processes checks and cash for deposits/payment to all types of deposit and loan accounts; verifies amounts, verifies amount due, examines checks for proper endorsement. Cashes checks/performs withdrawals for customers upon proper verification. Redeems savings bonds. Balances cash drawer at end of day and compares totals with computer totals. Scan checks and savings bonds. Assist branch staff in end of night duties. Ensure teller station is properly stocked with forms, supplies, etc. Advise customers on status of accounts and answers questions. Answer telephone and written inquiries concerning savings, certificates and checking accounts and provides other account information. Cross-sells Bank products and services Assist other departments on a temporary basis or on as needed basis during peak business hours. Completion of all mandatory training Performance Factors Attendance and Dependability: The employee can be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and strives to keep absences minimal. Employee can be depended upon to complete work in a timely, accurate, and through manner and is conscientious about assignments. Communication and Contact: The employee communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside of the Bank. Relationships with Others: The employee works effectively and relates well with others including supervisors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Bank. The employee exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others and works to maintain constructive working relationships. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and SKILLS:Education High School Diploma or GED Experience Experience handling cash is desirable. Skills Good math skills. Good interpersonal communication skills Good computer skills and ability to operate standard office equipment (i.e. calculator) Aptitude for use of Bank's Teller programs Other Requirements: Reliable mode of transportation and valid Driver's License.
