Our client is a leader in power distribution and protection systems, offering advanced relay and control panels, medium-voltage switchgear, and enclosures, including power and control buildings (E-Houses). They provide made-to-order/customized, turn-key solutions that ensure safe, secure, and reliable power distribution. The Estimating Director will oversee national estimating teams and processes. Responsibilities include developing and implementing estimating procedures, maintaining a high bid success rate with strong profit margins, and fostering talent within the department. This role requires travel to the Canada and Texas offices for at least one week every two months to review projects and promote a positive culture among engineering teams. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred), or a related electrical field. Minimum of 8 years of estimating experience, preferably within the electric utility industry. At least 8 years of leadership experience, demonstrating strong supervisory and management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and develop niche product order estimates for clients. Responsible for preparing RFP estimates for labor, engineering, logistics, and product ordering, with 400 to 500 bids annually. Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, and diagrams. Ability to interpret commercial documents. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently. Strong critical thinking skills and sound independent judgment. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and related programs such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks. Responsibilities: Establish procedures for the estimating team to follow from both technical and financial perspectives. Manage relationships with external customers and the business development manager to ensure cost effectiveness for both the company and its clients. Monitor technology trends and prepare cost reduction and business recommendations accordingly. Coordinate with departments to refine product estimates and establish standards for products and labor hours. Perform a final review of all estimates before sending them to the customer or the next layer for approval. Review proposals comprehensively to ensure customer confidence and market competitiveness. Review terms and conditions for all estimates and approve them within designated authority limits. Build strong client relationships and act as a subject matter expert on product capabilities. Read and interpret documents to understand customer requirements, define the scope of work, and assess the companys ability to bid. Conduct initial reviews of bid opportunities with the team to confirm alignment with company capabilities and identify potential alternative solutions for the customer. Encourage creative ideas within the department to ensure proposals are accurate and appealing to customers. Maintain accurate pricing for the internal database in coordination with the purchasing department. Recommend improvements to standardize the bid process and reduce cycle time.
