POSITION SUMMARY The Director of the Pep Band is a part-time position that is vital to creating the spirited, energetic atmosphere that defines Le Moyne's athletic events - especially at home men's and women's basketball games and other major college functions. Post-season travel is to be expected in the event that any college team is selected for conference and NCAA tournaments. The Director will play a key role in fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for student musicians, ensuring that all members feel valued and supported in their musical and personal growth. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Job duties specific to this position: Performances & Appearances: Attend, direct, and facilitate Pep Band performances and appearances. Collaborate with Athletics and Spirit Squad staff on performance logistics. Coordinate transportation, setup, and other logistical needs for performances. Promote the Pep Band through campus engagement and marketing initiatives. Foster a sense of community and school spirit among student musicians. Practice & Rehearsals: Schedule and conduct rehearsals (minimum of one per week) to prepare the Pep Band for performances. Administrative Responsibilities & Scheduling: Oversee Pep Band member participation, scheduling, and engagement, in close collaboration with Athletics and other College offices. Communicate and coordinate with the music program as appropriate. Maintenance & Inventory: Manage and maintain instruments, equipment, and uniforms. Performance & Safety: Support the safety and well-being of all Pep Band members during practices, travel, and performances. Collaborate with Le Moyne staff to prepare emergency response plans aligned with college protocols. Follow guidance provided by Le Moyne Sports Medicine and relevant departments. Music Instructor Requirement to instruct one section of MUS 395 (1-credit course) per Fall and Spring semester. All Pep Band members who are Le Moyne College students will be required to register for this course each semester of their involvement. Additional Responsibilities Maintain active and positive relationships with area high school band directors and others within the recruiting region Initial recruitment goals are 10-15 new students each fall with an annual ensemble enrollment of 30 plus students. Cultivate positive alumni and community relationships Job expectations for all Le Moyne College employees: Demonstrates and role-models all of Le Moyne's mission-based competencies (collaboration, communication, diversity, integrity, leadership and service) in every interaction with all community members and external parties. Strengthen digital literacy skills through education and the application of digital technologies in order to effectively engage in information gathering, utilization and data management while promoting a security culture. Promotes cura apostolica by aligning professional goals, objectives, and performance with college's strategic goals. Demonstrates excellent work attendance, reliability and work ethic. Attends and actively participates in required meetings and training sessions. Complies and adheres to all of Le Moyne's established policies, procedures and codes of conduct at all times, including all health and safety requirements and regulations, to promote desired behavior and build awareness. Must complete all required federal, state, institution and department trainings. Engages in a planned program of professional development. Continually maintains skills and knowledge relative to the position and technology industry including best practice, evolving operational requirements, and industry trends. Performs a variety of related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in Music, Education, or a related field required. Experience leading a band or similar ensemble, preferably at the collegiate or high school level. Strong musical leadership skills. Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and during game-day events. Familiarity with drumline instruction and coordination, particularly in a marching or athletic band setting; ability to integrate percussion effectively into high-energy performances is strongly preferred.
