Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants, Inc. (BakerRisk®) is seeking a senior level code professional with an interest in fire protection, fire prevention and/or risk management to join its ranks as a full-time, senior level consultant in our New Jersey office. This position is open to individuals with 10 - 15 years of experience of code implementation and/or compliance in complex environments. Experience with hazardous materials storage, processing and handling facilities is desirable. Example job duties include: Develop designs and specifications for prescribed and alternative fire protection measures. Effectively present prescribed protection designs, alternative protection measures and code modification/variance requests to clients, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), or other code officials/regulators. Design, analyze, and inspect fire protection water supplies including fire pumps, hydrant systems, tanks, and reservoirs; as well as water-based fire suppression systems including deluge systems, water spray systems and foam systems. Conduct property inspections and surveys. Conduct fire protection and risk assessments, water supply studies, code analyses and training. Analysis, inspection and conceptual design and specification of fire protection water supplies including fire pumps, fire water storage systems, hydrant systems and reservoirs. Regularly interface with clients (blue- and white-collar personnel), subcontractors, suppliers, regulators, and code officials. Regularly interface with the testing and service staff of HFRC, LLC, a subsidiary of Baker Risk. Working effectively with little supervision. Report writing and presentation development. Exact duties and responsibilities will be dependent upon the successful applicant's experience and education. Preferred persons interested in this position must have the following credentials or equivalents: BS or MS with a minimum of 5 plus years' experience in Fire Protection, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering and must have substantial experience with Building Codes and Fire Codes International Code Council (ICC) - Code Enforcement Manager, Officer, and/or Technician; Certified Fire Marshal/Official or Building Official American Association of Code Enforcement (AACE) - Code Enforcement Administrator, Officer, and/or Professional Professional Engineer - Fire Protection by Exam with substantial code enforcement or compliance experience The following traits/experience are desired (BRP would be interested in speaking with anyone satisfying 2 or more of them): At least 10-15 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Fire Code enforcement, compliance management for a property owner(s), and/or consulting Fire protection engineering with a strong emphasis on building and fire code application Management of corporate or facility fire and building code compliance Experience with classification of hazardous materials and working with Safety Data Sheets The following experience is desirable: Significant code compliance experience with occupancies involving hazardous materials manufacturing, processing, packaging, bulk storge, warehousing or other uses. Preference will be given to experience as an owner's representative. Significant work experience with flammable/combustible liquids, flammable gases, reactive and toxic materials, and other hazardous materials. Ability and comfort in making presentations and influencing regulators and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) personnel. Ability to communicate with clients, code officials, and engineers. This position is located on the second floor of a historic building; requires the lifting and handling of goods, tools, and test equipment; and involves a significant amount of time in the field requiring physical exertion and full mobility. As such the successful applicant must be able to lift 50 lbs., walk on unlevel/unimproved surfaces, bend and kneel, stand/walk for long periods of time, and climb/descend stairs and ladders without assistance. The successful applicant will be required to wear personal protective equipment and endure prolonged exposure to the weather, water, heights, odors, dirt, dust, and other physical discomforts. The applicant can expect 20 - 30 % travel, as a minimum. The majority of BRP's current work is located in the continental U.S. However, overseas travel may be required for some projects. The applicant must have a valid driver's license. The position will be located in Medford, New Jersey (Greater Philadelphia area). Remote working is not an option at this time. If you are hired at BakerRisk, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as country location, (i.e., US, Canada, UK), skills, education and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role and is dependent on experience.
