About Driscoll Children's Hospital Since 1953, Driscoll Children's Hospital has been dedicated to providing exceptional pediatric healthcare across South Texas. Our Sports Medicine team partners with local schools and athletes to ensure the safety, performance, and well-being of student athletes both on and off the field. Position Overview The Athletic Trainer will be school-based, located on school grounds, and will play a key role in providing rehabilitative care and injury prevention services under the direction of the Sports Medicine physician. This position also includes backup coverage in the clinic as needed. The Athletic Trainer will educate athletes, parents, and patients on injury prevention, rehabilitation, wellness, and health-related topics while ensuring safety and best practices in all aspects of care. This is a Driscoll-employed position. You will not be responsible for non-athletic duties such as bus driving, substitute teaching, or out-of-town travel for games. Key Responsibilities Provide rehabilitative care and sideline injury assessments Manage concussion protocols and respond to emergency situations Deliver education on injury prevention and rehabilitation programs Maintain strong communication between athletes, parents, school staff, physicians, and the Driscoll Sports Medicine team Assist with clinic coverage during summer months and school breaks Complete accurate documentation, patient histories, and billing charges Follow HIPAA, infection control, and patient safety standards Maintain treatment areas and equipment readiness Schedule & Work Environment Monday-Friday schedule Evening and occasional weekend game coverage as needed No out-of-town travel required During summer and school breaks, work will be based in the Driscoll Orthopaedic Clinic unless school programs or camps are active Education & Experience Bachelor's degree or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with athletes across multiple sports preferred. Licenses & Certifications Licensed Athletic Trainer in the State of Texas, required. Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer (ATC credential), preferred. Membership with National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA), preferred.
