Machinist Location: Goleta, California Type: Contract Job #87417 An aerospace client is looking for a Machinist to support our client's Machine Shop department. Location: Goleta, CA 93117 (Onsite) Position: Machinist Pay Rate: $27.54/hr. - $34.41/hr. on W2 (DOE) Duration: 12 months or longer Schedule: 9×80 A Shift: 1st Shift Travel: Yes, 10% of the Time Overview: A Machinist to support our client's Machine Shop department. As a member of the Machine Shop department you'll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside fellow machinists, design engineers, and quality inspectors. This position will serve on-site at the machine shop in Goleta or Oxnard California. RESPONSIBILITIES: In this job role the machinist will set up, operate, and machine using a variety of machine tools such as lathes (manual), mills (CNC and manual), and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exact tolerances and dimensions. Machinists will interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determine sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; use a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining; fit and assemble precision parts into mechanical equipment and determine material, parts, and equipment required. Some machines may be numerically controlled. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience. Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as manual lathes, manual mills, CNC mills and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions Responsible for quality of the product by performing both in-process and final part inspections using a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments Makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; Care and maintenance of the equipment Assuring tooling and materials readiness Maintaining a clean and safe work environment Provide training to others in all aspects of Mill/Lathe equipment setup, operations, and maintenance Strong interpersonal communication skills with ability to work with others at all levels of the organization Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to prioritize Excellent time management skills Ability to work independently Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, diverse environment Initiative, self-starter, adaptable, and high motivation for excellence High energy, results oriented, self-motivated / self-reliant, team player BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: US Citizenship is required. High school diploma or equivalent Machining experience (3+ years) Able to lift or move a minimum of 35 -50 lbs. for up to 12 hours per day; pushing or pulling 35 -50+ lbs. occasionally throughout the workday. Familiarity with CNC Mills and machine programming software (example Mastercam, CAMworks, etc.) Must have experience running manual machines and performing set-ups Ability to read and interpret production specifications, production diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications (English) Experience in following written set-up instructions and /or performing unique set-ups. Experience fabricating component parts where set-ups are non-routine and tolerances are difficult to acquire and maintain. Able to work in a standing position for extended time periods. Experience in complex measurements and advanced shop math calculations relative to tolerances, dimensions, tooling, and feeds and speeds. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience with Fanuc and HAAS Controllers preferred. • 4+ years' experience on 3 Axis CNC machines, 4 and 5 Axis is a plus • Proficiency in CAM programming with Mastercam preferred.
