Role Purpose: The Analytical Chemist supports production quality at the Glendale Brewery and U.S. Corporate Quality initiatives by performing routine quality assurance activities. Responsibilities include developing and applying analytical techniques, procedures, and documentation to inspect and test raw materials, in-process, and finished products, as well as investigating defects, quality issues, and customer complaints. The role may also support new product development. With strong attention to detail, the Chemist compares analytical results to specifications to quickly identify and report quality concerns to senior management. Will also work closely with Brewing, Batching, Packaging, Corporate Quality, and external co-packers. Accountabilities & Impact:Perform routine analysis and provide timely and accurate data to all departments of the Glendale Brewery and the Corporate Quality & Technical teams. Evaluate finished goods quality and audit processes throughout production to ensure all specs are met and plant/co-packers are operating within desired parameters. Troubleshooting and resolving issues with product quality (at co-packer or consumer level) including initiating and monitoring corrective actions. Proficient in Good Lab Practices, keeping a clean and safe laboratory Learn and understand processes throughout the facility to better assist with troubleshooting, determining root cause, isolating and dispositioning holds and working to resolve customer complaints. Help to develop quality specifications, information records and display data clearly and effectively. Operate and maintain lab equipment/instrumentation, not limited to Alcolyzer, DMA, pH meters, GC, HPLC, spectrophotometer, etc. Skillful with instrument calibration and maintenance as well as maintaining control charts to ensure instruments are performing properly. Prioritize work in a fast-paced environment to limit downtime and keep operations moving Manage laboratory inventory and sample retains. Sensory evaluation and taste panel participation Primary and secondary Packaging Material development and improvement initiatives. Product integrity and stability testing. Skills & Experiences Needed:Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biochemistry required. Must be able to apply for TTB certification. 5+ years of quality assurance experience with at least 2 years of experience in food/carbonated beverage/alcohol preferred. Must be at least 21 years of age. Working knowledge of current regulatory policy relative to raw materials, ingredients, products and processes. Willing to work rotating shifts, overtime, and occasional weekends/holidays. Strong analytical skills. Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy. Knowledge of good laboratory practices, including sample prep, handling and record keeping. Assist in managing non-conforming products to ensure they are not released without further analysis and Quality Manager approval. Experience managing and performing Micro and Sensory analysis preferred. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize work while multitasking. Demonstrate motivation and a good work ethic under minimal supervision. Must work effectively in team environments. Proficient with basic computer applications, including Excel, Microsoft Office, and Word. Statistical process control skills and use of statistical analysis software preferred.
