ABOUT Effective and secure communication in the cyber domain is vital for military intelligence operations. As a Cyber Communications Specialist, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the global Naval network environment. Your responsibilities will include: Mapping out the future network platforms Ensuring efficiency of Navy technologies Developing and deploying advanced information systems and command technologies Understanding adversaries and enhancing battle knowledge during wartime RESPONSIBILITIES In this role, you will lead initiatives to plan, acquire, secure, operate, and maintain the Naval network and related systems. Your key activities may include: Leading network warfare missions and developing tactical procedures for strategic advantages Driving interoperability with joint, allied, and coalition partners Enhancing professional development through education, training, and certification Utilizing advanced technologies and knowledge management to optimize effectiveness Supervising Information Systems Technicians who specialize in IT WORK ENVIRONMENT Cyber Communications Specialists will serve in dynamic roles with increasing responsibility, which may involve: Working on ship Battle Group staffs Engaging in C4I/Space/Surveillance on shore assignments Serving on prominent Navy and joint staffs Leading major communication and surveillance facilities globally TRAINING & ADVANCEMENT To pursue this specialist position, you must begin with Officer Candidate School (OCS) and continue with a five-week IP Basic Course in Pensacola, Fla. You will have to complete specific qualifications during Fleet tours and are encouraged to seek advanced education opportunities. Promotion paths are competitive, driven by performance, and specialized training will lead to high-value career opportunities. EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES Expanding your education is essential for professional advancement. Consider: Pursuing degrees or opportunities at institutions like Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) or Navy War College (NWC) Completing Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) at service colleges Gaining certifications and attending federal executive fellowship programs Most Cyber Communications Specialists will achieve a master’s degree in fields such as C4I, systems engineering, or computer science, along with various DoD certifications and internships. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS A four-year degree is necessary for this position. Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science. Additionally, candidates must: Be U.S. citizens Be willing to serve globally Be eligible for a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance Be qualified for sea duty General qualifications may vary depending on prior military service or experience.
