Job Description

Job Description Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is revolutionizing enterprise applications by providing unmatched hyper-scale, multi-tenant services across more than 50 global regions. We are expanding our mission beyond conventional public cloud boundaries to encompass dedicated, hybrid, and multi-cloud solutions, as well as edge computing. Within the Technical Strategy and Oversight (TSO) organization, we prioritize customer choice, transparency, and value in cloud infrastructure. We are kicking off innovative initiatives aimed at building cutting-edge platforms, high-performance primitives, and frameworks that support OCI developers. We're also developing a new container runtime capable of managing the full spectrum of OCI services, particularly those with the highest demands for performance and availability. As we grow, we seek a highly skilled Software Engineer to join our new Cloud Performance Organization. This pivotal team will tackle service inefficiencies, cut cloud costs, enhance customer experiences, and ensure scalability. Your focus will be on optimizing performance for OCI's critical components and applications while promoting a culture of performance engineering. This is a unique opportunity to design and build new cloud services from the ground up. You will join a motivated, diverse team and receive the autonomy and support necessary to excel in a dynamic, flexible workplace. Who are we looking for? You should possess substantial experience in designing major features and bringing them to production. With a strong background in operating high-scale public cloud services, you willprovide technical leadership and guide development teams while working independently on projects. You will drive designs for major service components in collaboration with engineering managers and TPMs, mentor junior team members, and engage in hands-on coding, architectural documentation, and engineering peer reviews. Your technical strengths will allow you to balance speed and quality through iterative improvements. You will simplify processes for developers and inspire teams to enhance both process and service quality through effective automation and instrumentation. You should understand operational excellence and foster a high-quality, customer-focused culture. Responsibilities Assess cloud service performance, identify inefficiencies, and develop cost-effective solutions. Streamline internal tools, processes, and developer workflows to boost operational efficiency. Benchmark OCI services against competitors and pinpoint performance enhancement opportunities. Collaborate with service teams to incorporate performance evaluation tools into CI/CD pipelines. Quantify the financial impact of service inefficiencies and relate performance data to business outcomes. Enhance shared components, libraries, and runtime configurations (e.g., Java runtime, SDKs, and images). Qualifications: 5 to 10 years of distributed service engineering experience in a software development environment. Proficiency in a modern programming language, such as Java, C++, or C#. Hands-on experience with public cloud service control or data planes. Experience with software performance profiling, analysis, and optimization. Strong grasp of object-oriented design and SDK development within cloud environments. Proven experience collaborating with architects, product, and program managers to deliver features on time and with quality. Solid knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed system fundamentals. Familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures. Understanding of databases, NoSQL systems, storage, and distributed persistence technologies. Competence in Linux administration and networking stack configuration. Demonstrable technical leadership and mentorship skills. Experience with JVM and benchmarking tools is advantageous. Preferred Qualifications: BS in Computer Science or a related field (MS preferred). Experience developing services on a public cloud platform (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP). Involvement in security reviews, documentation, UX reviews, and collaboration with Product Managers from inception through launch. Experience building continuous integration/deployment pipelines with effective testing and deployment schedules.
