The Grounds Technician is responsible for performing gardening, landscaping and grounds maintenance providing a safe, clean aesthetically appealing campus environment and ensuring assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner. This position may have occasional travel between campuses and for training. Occasional after hours may be required. This position is considered Part-Time Permanent. Essential DutiesMaintains building accessibility and appearance by picking up papers and trash and removing ice and snow from walkways and parking lots. Maintains Lawn and surrounding landscape. Maintains flowers, prunes trees and hedges, mows lawn, removes weeds, edges walkways, and maintains exterior areas; mixes and applies fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals following manufacturer's directions and departmental guidelines; prepares soil for planting and maintains beds around buildings Mow, Blow, Weedeat, Edge, Pull Weed, Pruning. Help in setting up for events (move tables, & chairs) Pickup litter Complete the annual five-hour staff development. Encourage and support College activities, policies, procedures, and philosophies. Minimum RequirementsHigh School Diploma or equivalent Three years related experience An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures Knowledge of general grounds keeping practices and irrigation systems Knowledge of pest control practices, procedures and methods Skill in mixing pesticides, herbacides, and fertilizers Skill operating heavy equipment and power and hand tools. Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail Ability to work independently while contributing to team environment Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions and take appropriate action, resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other departmental staff, students and the public Ability to communicate via text, email, and phone for job related task scheduling.
