Job Description Join Oracle's AI Innovation team as a Senior Principal Applied Scientist and play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of AI infrastructure. Leverage your expertise to define the requirements for training and deploying models on a massive scale, ensuring that our AI infrastructure is poised for future advancements. In this dynamic position, you will utilize your deep understanding of machine learning techniques, including evaluating foundation models, various NLP/CV metrics, human evaluation, confidence estimation, and RAG application evaluation. Your research will directly influence where we focus our investments across the AI stack. You will lead innovative research and conduct extensive evaluations on Large Language Models (LLMs) and related systems, developing benchmarks that assess quality, latency, cost, and reliability in real-world applications. Your responsibilities will include prototyping new training and inference methods and executing large-scale experiments to identify scaling behaviors and bottlenecks. A PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Linguistics, or similar fields is preferred, with a strong focus on machine learning techniques. Alternatively, candidates with relevant experience and a Bachelor's or Master's degree may also be considered. Responsibilities Research and Development: Engage in comprehensive research on foundation model evaluation and produce production-ready code for handoff to Engineering. Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate evaluation capabilities into diverse applications and products. Innovation: Identify emerging technologies and opportunities for enhanced evaluation practices. Industry Awareness: Stay updated on trends and advancements in model evaluation. Qualifications and Experience: PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Linguistics, or a related field with a focus on Machine Learning/Deep Learning/Generative AI/Computational Linguistics; candidates with 5+ years of additional experience will also be considered. Strong publication record as a lead author or reviewer in top-tier journals or conferences. Extensive experience in generative AI and model evaluation. Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms and architectures. Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities. Strong leadership and communication skills. Compensation: The hiring range for this position is $139,400 to $291,800 per year, and may include eligibility for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.
