Join Our Team as an Experienced Electrical Systems Engineer! We are looking for a dynamic and skilled Electrical Systems Engineer to lead the design, development, and testing of innovative electrical systems and equipment. This role involves overseeing projects, providing technical expertise, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. You will collaborate with a team of engineers and professionals to tackle complex electrical challenges, conduct research, and develop cutting-edge solutions. Essential Responsibilities: Independently manage and complete standard projects that align with client specifications and needs. Utilize AutoCAD to draft electrical construction drawings, collaborating with mechanical and wiring teams. Engineer motor control solutions (480V to 5kV) and switchgear systems (480V to 38kV). Work alongside project management to interpret project requirements and client specifications throughout the project lifecycle. Produce and validate Bills of Materials for client submission and approval. Conduct self and peer design reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to issuing projects for manufacturing. Mentor and support junior engineers within the team. Offer technical guidance during client meetings. Coordinate with purchasing and suppliers to approve component parts and assemblies. Promptly inform supervisors and project management of issues affecting project scope, budget, and schedule. Collaborate with electrical and mechanical design teams to create the final design and construction package, including wiring diagrams and layouts. Create AC/DC schematics, component layouts, and wiring diagrams for various project approvals. Provide technical assistance to sales, application engineering, and inspection teams throughout project duration. Support production engineers in troubleshooting daily challenges. Adhere to company policies, work instructions, and safety regulations. Engage regularly with clients, suppliers, and OEMs. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field. A minimum of 4-8 years of experience in an engineering role. Advanced skills in drafting and AutoCAD. Proficient in electrical switchgear design and control schemes. Strong understanding of power systems and relay applications related to switchgear products. Skills and Attributes: Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, schedules, and budgets in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organizational, communication, presentation, and planning skills. Experience addressing engineering development tasks and production challenges. Track record of successful collaboration in cross-functional teams. Self-motivated with a tenacious approach to first-of-its-kind projects. Strong problem-solving abilities and aptitude for troubleshooting complex systems. Solid understanding of one-line/threeline drawings, control schematics, and point-to-point wiring diagrams. Familiarity with power distribution equipment (three-phase systems, relays, transformers, control switches). Comprehension of electrical distribution (480V to 38kV) and switchgear operation. Knowledgeable about the National Electric Code and standards like IEEE, ANSI, and UL. Able to apply cost-effective techniques for developing tailored engineering solutions. Strong commitment to customer service. Expertise in project specification and drawing reviews, including interpretation of client specifications. Working Conditions: The position is primarily office-based but may involve visits to shop environments and construction sites. Safety is a priority at Powell Industries.
