DEFINITION To supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of employees responsible for swimming pool programs; to ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; and to perform the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. This is a seasonal position with no benefits. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This position receives direction from the Senior Director of Parks and Recreation and exercises direct supervision over pool staff. Duties and Responsibilities DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. Assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of subordinate employees responsible for swimming pool programs including overall pool operations. Participate in the selection of pool personnel; provide or coordinate employee training; work with subordinate employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures. Establish schedules and methods for providing assigned services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly. Develop, manage, and adjust weekly staff schedules to ensure adequate lifeguard coverage for all operating hours, programs, special events, and changing operational needs. Monitor and communicate scheduling expectations by verifying time worked for payroll accuracy, submitting approved timesheets timely, and clearly informing aquatics and Parks and Recreation staff of shift changes and attendance requirements. Participate in the development of policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures. Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; implement approved policies and procedures. Perform the more technical and complex tasks of the work unit. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Knowledge of Operations, services and activities of a swimming pool. Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation. Occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions. CPR and general life saving techniques English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Operations, services and activities of the city. Basic principles and procedures of record keeping. Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations. Ability to Supervise, organize and review the work of subordinate employees. Select, supervise, train and evaluate subordinate employees. Handle and balance a cash drawer Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws, and regulations. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Work flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Operate and use modern office equipment including a computer. Follow all safety rules and regulations of the Parks and Recreation department. Interpret, explain, and enforce departmental policies and procedures. Interpret and explain city policies and procedures. Prepare clear and concise reports. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and Experience: High School Diploma or GED. Two years of administrative and/or supervisory experience. Licenses and Certificates:Possession of an appropriate, valid Lifeguard Training, CPR and First Aid Training certificate prior to appointment.
