What You'll DoWe're looking for an Annuities Product Officer to join our Income Solutions Product team. In this role, you'll serve as a strategic architect for our annuity business, shaping, leading, and executing the overarching strategy that supports the Individual Annuities business. It provides senior-level product and business leadership to drive innovation, strengthen market competitiveness, and ensure our annuity solutions meet evolving customer and market needs. The role maintains a strong external presence, represents the business across the enterprise, and ensures we deliver differentiated, profitable, and operationally sound annuity offerings. Business Strategy & Innovation: Develop and execute a comprehensive business strategy across the customer value stream for Individual Annuities in partnership with technology, distribution, product, finance, actuarial, and operations. Ensure business portfolio performance, competitiveness, pricing, and risk management support capital-efficient growth. Identify emerging markets, new opportunities, and competitive gaps to accelerate business growth. Co-lead the Individual Annuities P&L alongside the Head of Product Strategy - Income Solutions. Lead the Advanced Market Solutions team and provide strategic expertise to distribution partners, advisors, and external stakeholders. Translate complex annuity concepts into clear, actionable insights for internal partners and distribution. Partner across the enterprise to explore new capabilities and strategic partnerships. Shape annuity strategy within the broader Principal retirement ecosystem, with emphasis on decumulation and the full retirement journey. Responsible for co-leading the Annuity Strategy Working Group (ASWG) to ensure alignment and prioritization of enterprise strategy. Support ideation and early-stage R&D efforts for Income Solutions from concept through evaluation. Collaborate with enterprise partners (Asset Management, Principal Bank, Custody, Pension Solutions, RIS) to co-create new market opportunities. Provide strategic support to wholesaler and sales teams by clarifying complex product mechanics and coordinating technical education with Actuarial. Guide early-stage product concept evaluation, including reviewing and stress-testing enhancements and building preliminary models for Actuarial review. Enterprise Collaboration & Governance: Serve as a senior liaison between the annuity business and finance/actuarial teams, ensuring alignment on pricing strategy, profitability, and risk. Partners across the annuity leadership team in matrix environment, collaborating with Product Development, Product Management, Technology, Operations, Marketing, and Sales to align priorities and drive execution of the annuity strategy. Collaborate with legal, compliance, and governance partners to ensure regulatory alignment and strong product controls. Influence enterprise-level priorities through data-driven recommendations and strategic insight. Market Leadership & External Engagement: Represent Principal as a senior, market-facing leader with distribution partners, industry groups, and external stakeholders. Build and maintain strong relationships with key distribution partners to understand emerging needs and drive business adoption. Engage in industry forums, conferences, and market events to strengthen brand presence and competitive intelligence. Communicate Principal's value proposition and market differentiators to external audiences. Business Analytics & Performance Management: Monitor business performance metrics including sales, profitability, persistency, and market share. Provide leadership with insights and analysis on market trends, competitive positioning, and business results. Develop business cases for strategic initiatives, investments, and portfolio enhancements. Partner with Enterprise Risk to ensure alignment with risk appetite and control standards. Leadership & Team Development: Build, mentor, and develop high-performing teams, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and cross-enterprise collaboration. Support talent development and succession planning within the Retail Annuities organization. Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required. Our mission, integrity, and customer focus have made us a trusted leader for more than 140 years!Who You Are Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience with 10+ years of experience in annuities, insurance, or financial services with increasing scope and responsibility required. 5+ years leading annuity business strategy, product direction, or market development required. Actuarial experience and/or CFA designation highly desired. FINRA Series (6,63) preferred. Must meet firm standards for registration within applicable jurisdictions. Deep understanding of RILA and variable annuity designs, competitive landscape, and regulatory environment (SEC, FINRA, state insurance). Strong financial acumen with the ability to evaluate pricing models, profitability, capital efficiency, and business cases. Experience developing teams, including coaching, mentorship, or oversight of subject-matter-expert groups. Experience contributing to or managing P&L, capital-efficiency decisions, or financial performance. Experience with retirement income solutions or decumulation strategies preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of annuity features, riders, guarantees, risk levers, and distribution economics. Familiarity with key distribution channels (broker-dealers, RIAs, IMOs) and advisor behavior. Proven ability to influence and collaborate across functions in a large, matrixed organization. Exceptional communication and executive-level presentation skills, including with C-suite and external partners. Strategic thinker with ability to translate insights into actionable business strategy. Strong relationship-management skills with internal teams and distribution partners. Demonstrated success leading complex, enterprise-level initiatives. Salary Range InformationSalary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)$141000 - $191000 / yearTime Off ProgramFlexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness.
