DescriptionElectrical Engineering Technician with Steering Navigation The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm has an opening for an Electrical Engineer Technician in our Norfolk, VA location. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. Our office is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and the downtown Norfolk Waterfront shopping district. Roles and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): Provide electronic engineering expertise on navigation and steering control systems. Work with engineers from the US Navy as well as different companies to ensure that electrical control and hydro mechanical systems are installed and operate correctly. Provide training and support to equipment operational workforce. Inspect and survey existing ships. Read and interpret original design drawings, technical manuals, and equipment specifications for incorporation into new designs. Candidates must have strong analytical skills, demonstrated problem-solving capability, and an interest and aptitude for electrical, computer networks and mechanical systems. Perform basic computer programming. Candidates are required to possess or obtain the following requirements: Minimum of 5 years experience working with US Navy electrical and/or electronic systems. Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance (U. S. Citizenship required) Desired characteristics: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology preferred Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate effectively with team engineers to identify and solve problems as related to ship systems design and equipment installation. Familiarity with CVN, L Class or DDG-51 Class Steering Gear and Navigation Systems Experience working with PLC based control systems. US Navy Gas Turbine Electrician (GSE), Interior Communications, or Aviation Electronic rates. Attention to quality and details with a mentality of "first time right." Possess problem-solving and analytical skills. Work well in a cross-functional team environment comprised of representatives from multiple organizations. Knowledge of shipboard system design and installation including: electrical systems, computer networks, hydraulic systems, and the AIT process Ability to read, use, and understand complex marine schematics and drawings. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills to include weekly status reports and post travel reporting. Ability to travel 20%.
