Hart Research Associates, one of the nation's leading public opinion research firms specializing in Democratic politics and causes, is currently seeking a motivated entry-level Data Associate to assist in processing a variety of data sets for our quantitative survey research studies. The Data department plays a vital role in Hart Research's mission to produce accurate, strategic and impactful research. In this position, you will perform essential tasks and grow in your knowledge of data science and polling from a team of motivated, smart, curious and supportive professionals who have passion for cause-related research. We believe working in-person fosters learning, mentorship, and camaraderie. We are located in a open office space just 1.5 blocks from Dupont Metro stop. This is a temporary position for the 2026 election cycle with potential to extend to a permanent role in 2027. ABOUT YOU: If you have a passion for research and politics and have some combination of the following skills, we encourage you to apply! MINIMIUM QUALIFICATIONSAssociates or Bachelor's degree and/or certification in data programming/data analytics software OR proven experience 0-2 years related experience or related training Strong math/quantitative skills Basic knowledge of statistics and/or quantitative research Excellent written and verbal communications skills Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Interest in public policy, political polling and/or survey research Data curiosity Attention to detail Required Technological Skills:Basic computer programming skills with ability to read and write code Proven facility to master new computer skills quickly Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel Preferred Technical Skills:Experience with multivariate regression, significance, or weighting Experience using Microsoft VBA and C# to develop macros and automate data-processing workflows Experience using one or more statistical software for data management and data analysis, such as SQL, SPSS, SAS, Stata, Python, R or Ruby (Red Centre) ABOUT THE JOB: As a key functional member of the Data Department, the Data Associate will work with hundreds of primary datasets and learn specialized statistical processes and data analytic software programs to:Prepare, tabulate, troubleshoot and process primary data sets Input weights and program data sets according to the Analyst's specifications Produce data output deliverables (e.g. cross tab sets, charts, tables) Conduct quality control checks of data sets All positions at Hart Research Associates may be asked to provide support and assistance outside of their core job function, including some evening and weekend hours. Evening and weekend hours may be required. Overtime will be paid for more than 40 hours of week per week. ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS OF THE JOB This job is based in our modern, secure, light-filled, open-floor plan office space in Washington, DC. We maintain a hybrid work environment that provides employees flexibility to work from home several days per week. Employees for this position must live within the Greater DC Region to be available for in-person meetings and/or in-office work, as needed or as requested by Company and/or Supervisor. Teleworking as a flexible work arrangement may be altered at the discretion of the Company. The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and ability to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to be in one position for long periods of screen use, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear both in person and over devices. The employee interacts in close spaces and frequently with other workers, vendors, and clients. The office is equipped with an elevator. The position works in an office environment with artificial light and air.
