Shadow Keeneland's Director of Outside Maintenance as they perform their daily rounds as well as working with the Arboriculture, Grounds, and Backside Maintenance managers. This internship will provide an inside look to how a racetrack and large equine farm operates while gaining experience in grounds management. Successful candidates will gain hands on experience caring for Keeneland's ornamental vegetation, green spaces, and landscaping. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Work on different crews that will be responsible for all building and grounds maintenance associated with beautifying Keeneland's 1,234 acre property. Assist with tree preservation and maintenance through trimming/pruning and pest management. Assist in tree risk assessments that may result in removals or weather damage cleanup. Assist with landscape maintenance as well as new installations. Assist with lawn maintenance and renovations. Assist with maintenance on multiple irrigation systems on the property. Maintain various types of handheld, power, and heavy equipment that will be used to complete daily responsibilities. Involved with barn area clean up and maintenance. Assist with muck and trash removal. Other duties and assignments as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Currently enrolled in the College of Agriculture with a focus in Forestry, Urban & Community Forestry, or Horticulture Science. Exceptional writing and communications skills; ability to work with team members. . Organized with the ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments. Creative and flexible, a proven self-starter. Ability to lift, push, pull or carry up to 50 lbs. Willingness to follow Keeneland's policies and procedures. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Driver's License A Kentucky Horse Racing Authority License is required for all track workers.
