Salary: $5,748.00 - $8,556.00 Monthly Location : Coachella, CA Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 2020-00488 Department: Facilities and Maintenance Division: Electrical Opening Date: 03/05/2026 Closing Date: 3/19/2026 11:59 PM Pacific Job Summary TITLE:Pump Maintenance Technician I/IISRN A22: $5,748 - $7,820, Monthly, Non-Exempt SRN A26: $6,260 - $8,556, Monthly, Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit: Teamsters 1932 DEPARTMENT: Facilities & Maintenance Section: Pump MaintenanceREPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to: Operations Crew Chief Pump Maintenance, Electrical Supervisor Supervises the following positions: N/A Promotional opportunity procedures will include the following: Review of minimum qualifications Review of personnel file, including but not limited: attendance history, disciplinary history, and performance evaluations Testing/Assessments Oral Interview(s) DEFINITION Under immediate (Pump Maintenance Technician I) to general (Pump Maintenance Technician II) supervision, performs a variety of installation, maintenance, and repair work on domestic water well and booster pumps, canal pumps, irrigation pump systems and drainage pumps, motors, mobile and stationary generators, air compressors; operates mobile cranes and other hoisting equipment; monitors and inspects equipment for reliable operating condition and performance including preventative maintenance; and performs related work as required. Essential FunctionsEXAMPLES OF TYPICAL JOB FUNCTIONS Maintains, installs, troubleshoots, and repairs domestic water systems, facilities, and equipment including pumps, wells, cla-valves, motors, mobile and stationary generators, and air compressors; follows preventative and predictive maintenance practices. Excavates for conduit installation, electrical building slabs, service lines, and other excavations as assigned and ensures all underground utilities are located before excavating. Operates diesel or gasoline powered earth moving and trenching equipment such as tractors, loaders, backhoes, and trucks; operates mobile cranes and other hoisting equipment and assists other departments in crane operations. Performs a variety of excavating, earthmoving, backfilling, trenching, and lifting duties. Assists District Electricians, HVAC Technicians, and other staff on specific work projects including monitoring and videoing wells. Loads and offloads well site materials for contractor use; assists in performance testing of pumps and motors Performs general clean-up and maintenance of pumping plants. Depending on assignment, works collaboratively with on-call contractors and vendors. Estimates labor, materials, and equipment needed for assigned projects; monitors inventory levels of materials and equipment; orders, receives, and maintains inventory of materials and equipment as needed. Maintains tools and equipment; work, time, and material records; generates work orders; provides recommendations regarding needed parts and suppliers. Minimum QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAny combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Education: Equivalent to a High School Diploma. Experience: Technician I: One (1) year of experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of pumps, motors, or other equipment similar to what is found in a water or wastewater agency. Technician II: Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience performing duties similar to a Pump Maintenance Technician I with the District or other similar agency. Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California Driver's License to be maintained throughout employment. Technician II: Possession of a Grade D2 Water Distribution Operators Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board. Knowledge of: Principles and techniques used in the operation and maintenance water pumping, production, storage, disinfection, and treatment systems. Water and non-potable system operations; preventive maintenance practices. Mechanical principles related to the maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, valves, and related mechanical equipment and appurtenances. Safe application, operation, and maintenance of tools and equipment used in course of work. Occupational hazards and safety equipment and practices related to the work including confined space requirements. Basic arithmetic. Principles and procedures of record-keeping and reporting. District and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols. Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and District staff. The structure and content of the English language to effectively perform the work. Modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions and program, project, and task coordination, including computers and software programs relevant to work performed. Operational characteristics, and the safe and proper use of, machinery, tools, equipment, and materials necessary to perform assigned duties. Ability to: Perform a variety of complex technical tasks in the installation, repair, and maintenance of equipment including pumps, motors, valves and related equipment and appurtenances. Troubleshoot maintenance problems and determine materials and supplies required for repair. Use a diverse range of diagnostic tools to identify maintenance needs. Skillfully and safely operate a variety of equipment, vehicles, and power and hand tools used in the mechanical maintenance field. Perform a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks related to water facilities and appurtenances. Estimate necessary materials and equipment to complete assignments. Read, interpret, and apply a wide variety of technical information from manuals, drawings, specifications, layouts, blueprints, and electrical schematics. Make accurate arithmetic calculations. Maintain accurate logs, records, and basic written records of work performed. Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy and procedural (add legal if applicable) guidelines. Effectively use computer systems, software applications relevant to work performed, and modern business equipment to perform a variety of work tasks. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, using appropriate English grammar and syntax. Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
