Job Description

Title: Engineer (VARIES) Company: Tampa Electric Company State and City: Florida - Tampa Shift: 8 Hr. X 5 Days POSITION CONCEPT This position is for an Engineer Associate level to Senior level Engineer. The Network Engineer supports coordination and design related to construction, maintenance and long-term projects within Tampa Electric Company's (TEC) network, Downtown Underground Commercial Distribution (UCD) system, Tampa International Airport (TIA), and Tampa General Hospital (TGH). Responsibilities include creating and/or processing new construction and system maintenance work requests in the work management system (WMS), determine customer/system requirements, prepare designs, estimates, switching instructions, obtain necessary work permits and coordinate activities with all involved TEC departments to ensure successful scheduling and completion of projects. Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, regulatory requirements and company standards & policies. Engineer Classification is multi-level, based on the qualifications guidelines as outlined in the Company's Engineering Career Path, Administrative Policy No. TECO-EMP-POL-06-1. A minimum classification of an Associate Engineer is required in this position. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Create and/or process work requests (WR) which includes specifying network/DUCD material & equipment, accurately reflecting financials, requesting utilities to be located, determining the appropriate MOT, producing construction/maintenance cost estimates, determining and communicating the need for Contribution-In-Aid-of-Construction (CIAC) and scheduling necessary outages while ensuring compliance with all safety & respective regulatory requirements. Meet with customers (including high profile large customers) and/or their agents to conduct needs and feasibility assessments, create work orders to meet need(s), determine schedules along with required milestone completion dates; manage internal & external communications and coordinate maintenance/construction activities. Develop, facilitate and participate in training on network/DUCD design, equipment, fault locating procedures and new technology. Read and interpret network secondary and conduit maps. Verify as-builts and produce estimates; oversee the updating & production of network & DUCD GIS construction prints. Investigate and test the application of new network/DUCD equipment; analyze its application and make recommendations for upgrades/replacements. Assists the Network Cable Crew Supervisor(s), Distribution Design, Line Supervisors and the Operations Manager in activities related to Network/UCD design. Ensures filings are completed on time as well as miscellaneous duties as assigned. Makes recommendations for the long-term expansion of infrastructure and approves network/UCD load transfers; ensures maps, manhole & vault data and equipment inventory are up to date. Makes recommendations for the approved annual maintenance/storm restoration plans. Investigates, makes recommendations for new technology. Serve (when necessary) as the customer field liaison and provide technical assistance to the Network Specialists on emergency callouts and scheduled outages. In support of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, review financial data in WMS related to Engineering, Field Construction and Operations construction and maintenance activities. Verify activities are coded to the correct classification and charged to the appropriate accounts (Capital vs. O&M). SUPERVISION Direct: None Indirect: May oversee Network Specialists during callouts and scheduled outages RELATIONSHIPSKey Internal: Includes Distribution Operations, Transmission Engineering and Operations, System Service, Mapping Services, Line Clearance, Field Construction, Lighting, Construction Services, Telecom, One Source, New Construction, and Business and Industry Customer Service; may include Substation Engineering and Operations, Regulatory, Corporate Communication, and Environmental. Key External: Includes Tampa General Hospital, Tampa International Airport and other downtown commercial customers, architectural and engineering firms, electricians, developers, general contractors and their subcontractors; County and/or City officials and staff, Florida Department of Transportation, CSX, EPA and the FAA. QUALIFICATIONS EducationRequired: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited University Preferred: Focus in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering preferred. Licenses/CertificationsRequired: None Preferred: PE License. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)Required: Ability to function successfully within the team environment, consistent positive leadership, and initiative skills. Ability to work under direct supervision on routine assignments with projects of varying scope and complexity, following established policies, methods, and standard working procedures. Working conditions are both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. The level of stress varies depending on work load and customer deadlines. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS The Engineer may be required to work in field conditions near energized electrical equipment, walk in rough terrain, and lift objects up to 50 lbs., while wearing Fire Resistant clothing and Personal Protective Equipment as required per the Safe Work Practices Manual.
