Classification: Seasonal FLSA Status and Grade : NE-3, Exempt (1182.4) Salary Range: $850 per week - includes room & board Location: YMCA Camp Edwards Reports to: Executive Director - Camp Edwards POSITION SUMMARY: The Overnight Camp Coordinator at YMCA Camp Edwards is a seasonal position reporting to the Executive Director, coordinators work with Overnight Camp Youth Leaders by providing guidance, behavior management support and programmatic support as needed. Coordinators support staff, campers and guests, guiding them through daily routines and activities to foster a supportive, engaging environment. They are responsible for the care, health, and safety of campers from diverse age and socio-economic groups, serving as positive role models and playing a key role in shaping each camper's experience. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Daily supervision of youth leaders including scheduling, leading meetings, supporting camper behavior management and providing regular feedback to staff. Supports executive director with hiring, staff evaluation and corrective action Oversee daily program operations including safety, camper experience, program schedules and program standards in alignment with YMCA policies, ACA standards and County Health Dept. requirements Responsible for camper behavior management steps and partners with youth leaders, parents and executive director on progressive discipline steps, including sending campers home Coordinates with executive director on the health and safety at camp. Comfortable leading during an emergency, follows ACA approved healthcare procedures during camp and oversees health cottage during overnight camp Collaborates with executive director on program development and innovation. Brings new and creative ideas to overnight summer camp and weekend retreat programs Collaborates with executive director on communications, contract management and certificates of Insurance for rental groups. Oversee daily program operations for weekend and summer rental groups Set a good example for staff, campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up and chores, sportsmanship, table manners, appropriate language, etc. Manages program supply inventory to ensure all supplies are on hand at camp. Submits regular orders to executive director for approval and has a basic understanding of supply budget and can plan activities accordingly Manages daily camper cabin store orders and provides regular order to camp cook to ensure supplies are on hand and has a basic understanding of supply budget and can plan activities accordingly. Provides a good mix of healthy snacks and drinks for campers to choose from Coordinates camper and youth leader cleaning responsibilities to ensure cabins, restrooms, program areas and dining hall are presentable, comfortable and sanitary Collaborates with maintenance staff to support daily and weekly cleaning assignments, for turnover, check-in/check-out and pre/post season Create positive relationships with members, supervisor, co-workers, subordinates and the general public Model, practice, and carry out YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility and maintains the highest moral standards and values in all areas of the YMCA overnight camping programs QUALIFICATIONS: 21 years of age Two years' experience working with children Two years' experience supervising staff YMCA overnight camp experience or equivalent highly desirable BLS CPR and Title 22 First Aid Certified - Emergency Responder, Wilderness First Aid and/or EMT preferred YMCA lifeguard certification and/or level 1 - Rockwall and High Ropes training or successfully complete during YMCA staff training week WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be physically capable of standing for long periods of time, walking, hiking and participating in related camp program activities (i.e.: pool, archery, nature hikes, climbing tower, mountain bikes, lake front, arts & crafts, team challenge, group games, twilight activities, chapel, campfire) Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. or more in performance of duties. Ability to work effectively in a variety of environments including the outdoors, indoors, office and social settings. Ability to work outdoors in sun, heat, cold, snow conditions and various weather changes depending on program and season. BACKGROUND AND COMPLIANCE: All offers of employment are contingent upon the meeting the minimum Association-requirement(s) established for: employment references, personal references and Fingerprinting (a search of the candidate's criminal background history). This position is a seasonal, resident (overnight) camp counselor role and is classified as exempt from California overtime and minimum wage requirements under the California "Organized Camp" exemption (California Labor Code §1182.4 and Health & Safety Code §18897). Counselors are paid on a weekly salary basis that meets or exceeds 85% of the California minimum wage for a 40-hour workweek, regardless of the number of hours worked. Room and board are provided on site as part of employment for the duration of the camp session. Overnight Camp Coordinator must be available for the entire season. Summer Camp 2026 Season includes Staff training from May 29 to June 5 and seven weeks of summer camp from June 7 through July 31. This is a 6-day work week from Sunday through Friday.
