Exceptional Student Services (ESS) LPN Paraprofessional Alternate CurriculumJob purpose: The person assigned the duties of ESS LPN Paraprofessional will be responsible for working with students with significant cognitive disabilities in the alternate curriculum setting. The ESS LPN Paraprofessional will support the classroom teacher in establishing a positive learning environment and promoting maximum student independence in all assigned tasks. Strong technical and computer skills are preferred, in addition to effective communication skills, and an appreciation for collaborative communication and learning. Supporting students with personal hygiene needs, medical needs, as well as helping to move students in and out of adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs, may be necessary. Responsibilities include data collection and Medicaid billing. Duties and Responsibilities: Supports the implementation of specially designed alternate curriculum content in reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies, at the direction of a certified teacher. Collaborates with teachers, administrators, support staff, and parents to support student progress. Completes special education documentation, medical documentation, and classroom record-keeping, at the direction of the ESS Teacher and supervising RN, according to DPS local procedures. Supports student performance in the classrooms and in school-wide activities, as assigned. Implements individualized communication systems for students who require them. Implements medical plans and toileting protocols when necessary. Maintains confidentiality regarding students with disabilities. Supports students' personal hygiene needs and moves students in and out of adaptive equipment (such as wheelchairs), when necessary. Performs student health procedures and assists students with administration of medication Communicates and collaborates with school personnel, nursing administration, students and families in a professional manner and with appropriate frequency about school health issues. Document, compile, and analyze data for Medicaid reports. Assists school nurse with updated health records on students with disabilities. Strong technical and computer skills are preferred. Pursues professional learning opportunities to build professional expertise. Qualifications: Associate's degree in Practical Nursing Must hold valid State of Georgia Practical Nurse license Must hold valid certification for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Associates degree or higher; or at least sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited institution of higher education; official transcript required to validate education; ability to effectively attend to the needs of school aged students/small groups in the classroom under the direction of a classroom teacher and school administration. Specific Qualifications: Successful candidates must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and other school based software. Bilingual preferred.
