Transportation Specialist The Transportation Specialist is responsible for coordinating transportation activities, including relay distribution, outside carriers, parcel services, non-DSD product movement, and freight billing. This role supports the Transportation Department with scheduling, compliance, recordkeeping, and internal shipment monitoring. The Transportation Specialist also serves as the primary point of contact for transportation-related matters and ensures operational efficiency across the supply chain. Key Responsibilities Support the Transportation Supervisor with daily operational tasks, including scheduling, reporting, and analysis. Monitor and review freight spend for compliance with existing contracts; assist in negotiating rates and developing cost-saving strategies. Analyze inbound and outbound freight trends and report against company objectives. Identify optimal shipping methods based on route, procedure, and negotiated rates. Tender all inbound and outbound freight and generate accurate shipping documentation, including bills of lading and shipping labels. Coordinate shipments, delivery appointments, and confirmations in collaboration with the Distribution Coordinator for all Warehouse Distribution accounts. Develop and present logistics reports and action plans to support strategic initiatives. Evaluate and improve transportation procedures to enhance efficiency. Maintain and manage the relay schedule to ensure timely deliveries and maximize backhaul opportunities. Act as the primary contact for all outbound deliveries, including both internal fleet and external carriers. Submit and manage freight claims with vendors; follow through to closure. Monitor and ensure carrier compliance with all contractual obligations. Review, code, and submit freight and fleet invoices for approval and payment. Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental policies, processes, systems, and reporting tools. Prepare and submit monthly transportation reports, including accruals, key metrics, and department highlights. Monitor and maintain DOT compliance through proper recordkeeping and documentation. May be asked to perform additional duties as necessary Position Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required Associate or Bachelor's degree in logistics, business, or a related field preferred. 3 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or a related role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver's license required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) for port access. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) required. Experience with SAP S/4HANA or similar ERP systems preferred. Strong understanding of transportation/logistics industry standards and government regulations. Experience using Transportation Management Systems (TMS) preferred.
