Job Description

Crane Operator The Crane Operator is responsible for all phases of safety while setting up, operating, and moving a crane within the guidelines of all federal regulation standards as well as company standards. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience operating a crane and be capable of working with minimal oversight. This position will follow directions and closely adhere to construction industry safety standards. The position will be expected to work under all types of weather conditions. Operating Equipment Operates crane under general supervision at the direction of the site lead. Operates crane following training and safety protocols on all work sites. Manipulates or depresses crane controls to regulate the direction and the speed of the crane and the hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions. Inspect, maintain, and repair the crane as needed (maintaining records and submitting all reports and inspections to the site lead or Fleet Manager). Inspect crane before each use for mechanical, safety, and environmental issues (proper operation, resolve leaks, and maintain supporting equipment). Assess operability and maintenance issues along with identifying malfunctions or inoperable parts. Maintain a log on work sites, inspections, service summaries, quality reports, and hours. Lift, position and place machinery, equipment or other large objects within the directed location at construction sites and industrial facilities. Follow proper procedures for placing blocks and outriggers to prevent damage to surrounding equipment and buildings and to prevent capsizing when lifting loads. Move levers and pedals to rotate crane on chassis to raise and lower crane boom and to raise and lower load-line. Bolt boom sections together to extend or modify boom for pile driving or high lifting. Work within the expected precise limits and standards of accuracy. Review lift plans and procedures with the site lead or safety Manager Operate crane under the direction of the signal commander or construction manager. Work with the field team on proper rigging, methods, and procedures to ensure the safety of each lift. Ensure a spotter is present and visual at all times while operating the crane. Start and stop crane engine. Driving Load and unload cargo Deliver materials and equipment to and from job sites Operate all company vehicles in accordance with local laws/regulations in a safe and courteous manner Conduct daily inspections of the vehicle at the end of the shift and report any problems or damage to management Keep assigned vehicles clean and orderly Comply with all DOT and in-house regulations and rules Complete a daily log and submit reports of mileage/hours covered at EOD Observe and report equipment or mechanical failures immediately Drive vehicle to worksites. Safety Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety program Attend daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself or endanger the wellbeing of others Cooperate with safety personnel, supervisors, and managers to ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company's Safety Policies. Teamwork Participate and contribute toward the success of the project and the organization. Promote a team approach and maintain communication with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas. Collaborate with other company personnel to meet organizational deadlines and objectives. Complete daily reports and timecards and support the construction manager. Education High school diploma/GED preferred Experience 2+ years equipment operating experience required 2+ years of experience operating a crane on a construction site Licenses/Certification/Registration Current driver's license required (Commercial driver's license preferred) NCCCO Certification Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Understanding and use of non-verbal commands for heavy equipment operation and crane work Work schedule will require open availability including weekends, holidays and overnights as determined by the needs of the business and projects; must be flexible Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment, post-offer background check and drug test Ability to pass a government background investigation
