The Grid Operations, Applications, and Transformation (GOAT) team is dedicated to implementing and maintaining cutting-edge Operational Technologies that support our Grid and Distribution Control Centers. We are looking for accomplished, integrity-driven, and collaborative individuals to step into the role of Senior Advanced Applications Engineer. In this pivotal role, you will support GOAT's Product Owners in the development and day-to-day functioning of Grid Control and ADMS Advanced Applications. You'll be involved with applications such as Load Flow, State Estimation, FLISR (Fault Location Isolation and Service Restoration), Volt/VAR Optimization, Dynamic Protection, and Outage Management. This is your chance to contribute significantly to building innovative solutions and supporting system architecture for a transformative technology initiative that enhances our Transmission Grid Applications and Advanced Applications. Responsibilities include requirements gathering, system design, evaluation, deployment, and ongoing support. Exceptional organizational and communication skills are crucial to understanding user needs, aligning them with vendor capabilities, and achieving team consensus. After applications become operational, you will also help shape the design of support and operations teams. Salary Range PG&E provides the salary range it believes might pay for this position. The actual salary paid will depend on various factors, including skills, education, certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. While we expect candidates to be positioned towards the middle or entry point of the range, final decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. The salary range for this position is as follows: Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area): $122,000.00 Mid Base Salary (Bay Area): $158,000.00 Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area): $194,000.00 Minimum Base Salary (California): $116,000.00 Mid Base Salary (California): $150,000.00 Maximum Base Salary (California): $184,000.00 Key Responsibilities Serve as the main liaison with system integrators, PG&E IT, Cyber Security, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to implement ADMS. Work alongside vendors to address technical challenges, leverage best practices, and deliver efficient solutions that meet internal client needs. Maintain deep knowledge of product solutions and advise on PG&E's technology roadmap. Enhance and optimize PG&E's electrical distribution Network Model through engineering analysis to meet advanced application requirements. Participate in functional testing to validate system performance, ensuring accuracy in reflecting electrical theory and operational behavior. Lead modernization efforts to verify that construction standards and operational procedures align with current and future system functionalities. Provide tier-2 application support and assist operations by ensuring optimal performance and resolving issues related to network models and system functionality. Act as the applications SME, coordinating with operations, protection, planning, IT, and cybersecurity, and manage root-cause analyses for SCADA and application performance issues. Travel to San Ramon may be required up to 10%. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience. 5 years of electric utility-related work experience. Experience with grid modeling software (e.g., CYMDIST, PSLF, Aspen, etc.). Desired Qualifications: 5 years of experience in utility operations (transmission and/or distribution power systems). Hands-on experience with commercial EMS/DMS/ADMS systems (e.g., Schneider Electric, GE, Siemens) and related advanced applications. Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and effective communication skills for collaborating with operators, engineers, and management. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to build strong relationships and influence at the Director level across PG&E. Execution ability, ownership, and decisiveness with expertise in SCADA and ADMS. Proficiency in translating user stories/features into technical tasks. Expert level understanding of Agile principles. Experience in a cross-functional, matrixed environment. Familiarity with key Electric Operations systems (GIS, DMS, OMS). Knowledge of distribution equipment and protection schemes. Understanding of SCADA/RTU/PMU concepts and communication protocols. Familiarity with network modeling tools, SQL databases, and Scripting for automation and data processing. Experience with tools like Jira, MS Excel, Foundry, Power BI.
