As a Cyber Communications Specialist, you will oversee the global Naval network environment, playing a vital role in ensuring operational effectiveness. Your responsibilities will include: Planning future network platforms Ensuring the efficiency of Navy technologies Developing and deploying information systems, command and control, and space systems Contributing to the Information Dominance Corps to better understand adversaries and gain knowledge of the battlespace during wartime Responsibilities In this role, you will be involved in planning, acquiring, securing, operating, and maintaining the Naval network and systems that support Navy operations. Your duties may include: Leading Naval network warfare missions to develop tactics and procedures for tactical, strategic, and business advantages afloat and ashore Enhancing interoperability with joint, allied, and coalition partners Fostering professional excellence through education, training, certification, and milestone qualifications Optimizing organizational effectiveness via cutting-edge technologies, knowledge management techniques, and a culture of innovation Supervising Information Systems Technicians who specialize in information technology Work Environment The role of a Cyber Communications Specialist features challenging assignments with increased scope and responsibility, both afloat and ashore. Potential environments include: Battle Group staffs on ships at sea C4I/Space/Surveillance roles during shore tours Major Navy and joint staffs Command of key communication and surveillance facilities globally Training & Advancement Interested candidates must complete Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Newport, R.I., and attend a five-week IP Basic Course in Pensacola, Fla., after or before their first assignment. As an Information Professional, you will need to complete specific qualifications during Fleet tours and pursue advanced education opportunities for career advancement. Promotions are competitive and performance-based, with valuable credentialing and occupational opportunities arising from specialized training and experience during service. Education Opportunities Beyond professional credentials, Information Professionals can enhance their education by: Attending institutions like Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) or Navy War College (NWC) Completing Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) at various service colleges Most IPs will pursue a master’s degree in C4I, space, information systems, computer science, or modeling and simulation, as well as potentially obtaining graduate certificates, DoD certifications, and scholarships in information assurance. Qualifications & Requirements A four-year degree is mandatory for this role. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in a technical field, preferably in: Information Systems Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering Information Operations Computer Science Systems Engineering General Engineering All candidates must be: - U.S. citizens - Willing to serve worldwide - Eligible for a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance - Qualified for sea duty General qualifications may differ based on prior service history.
