The Construction Energy Supervisor (CES) is the on-site authority responsible for meticulously planning, coordinating, controlling, and documenting all energy isolation and energization activities for our data center construction projects. You will play a vital role in ensuring the safe execution of high-voltage electrical systems, UPS systems, generators, and mechanical plants in environments where energized systems significantly affect live operations. With your expertise, you will protect personnel and equipment by enforcing stringent energy control protocols that align with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and industry best practices. Your Key Responsibilities: Create and implement the Project Energy Control Plan tailored to data center infrastructure. Manage Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) for various systems including: Medium voltage gear (5kV-35kV) Switchgear and switchboards UPS systems and battery strings Generators and paralleling gear CRAC/CRAH units and mechanical plants Ensure a verified zero-energy state before work begins. Maintain detailed switching logs and isolation tracking. Lead energization sequencing for: Utility tie-ins Generator startup UPS static bypass transitions A/B system commissioning Mechanical Equipment Live campus expansions Work closely with utility providers and the operations teams of the owner. Ensure that no unplanned impacts occur to existing live data halls. Review and approve Method of Procedure (MOP) and Energized Work Permits. Collaborate with the Commissioning Authority to validate energization boundaries. Verify proper labeling and arc flash studies are conducted prior to energization. Manage the transition from temporary power to permanent power. Supervise black building tests and integrated systems testing (IST). Ensure redundancy integrity (N, N+1, 2N systems) is maintained. Conduct daily field audits for LOTO compliance. Enforce NFPA 70E arc flash and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements. Utilize stop work authority when unsafe energy conditions arise. Lead energy hazard pre-task planning discussions. Monitor battery safety, fuel systems, and stored energy risks. Maintain a master energization matrix and track the real-time status of energized systems. Update red-line one-line diagrams as necessary. Provide daily energy status reports to project leadership and clients. Document all energy-related incidents or near misses. Essential Skills & Competencies: A mission-critical mindset with exceptional attention to detail. Strong ability to coordinate across multiple MEP disciplines. Decisive leadership skills during high-risk testing events. Excellent communication capabilities with owners, engineers, and commissioning teams. Proficiency in managing fast-paced schedules and phased turnovers. A high school diploma or equivalent (technical or trade background is strongly preferred). Experience in construction supervision in mission-critical or data center environments (8+ years). In-depth experience with electrical and mechanical commissioning of critical systems. Strong grasp of redundancy concepts, system interdependencies, and sequencing. Able to read and interpret drawings, single-line diagrams, and commissioning scripts. Proven leadership in safety-critical environments. Hands-on experience in delivering Tier III or Tier IV data centers. Familiarity with data center commissioning best practices. OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, or equivalent safety certifications.
