About the Role: As an Engineering Manager II, you will lead a team responsible for the foundational secure compute layer of Confluent Cloud. Your role is vital in supporting our internal product teams and empowering our customers with essential building blocks for secure code execution and data processing across AWS, Azure, and GCP. With the expansion of our product portfolio, your leadership will be crucial in attracting and retaining our multi-tenant customer base while driving product adoption and overall company growth. Your input will shape a multi-year roadmap and ensure all platform features meet the highest standards of quality, security, and reliability across global clusters. What You Will Do: Lead the strategic vision and multi-year roadmap for the Secure Compute Platform. Provide hands-on technical leadership in distributed systems, Kubernetes, and container-based runtimes for enhanced security and scalability. Collaborate with Product, Security, and Cloud Infrastructure teams to define architectural standards and develop seamless solutions. Foster a culture of technical excellence and ownership in an inclusive engineering team of 6-8 engineers. Drive the exploration of AI-driven tools to improve team velocity and operational efficiency. Oversee the execution of core platform building blocks, ensuring they meet global customer needs. Maintain high operational standards for reliability and performance across thousands of clusters. Encourage platform adoption and ensure secure compute interfaces meet developers' needs. What You Will Bring: Over 10 years of software development experience, with at least 3 years in a management role. Experience in designing resilient systems at scale using major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP). Expertise in building secure distributed systems with proficiency in Kubernetes and container technologies. Knowledge of API governance frameworks to ensure consistency and reliability. Strong communication skills to influence peers and stakeholders. Proven ability to hire, motivate, and mentor engineers while managing performance. A track record of successfully delivering features in a timely manner with a sense of urgency and excellent prioritization skills. A Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
