Position: Director of Emergency Department Administration Status: Full-time, 40 hours per week FLSA Classification: Exempt Work Arrangement: Four Days On-Site, One Day Remote or 8A-5P Mon-Fri Reports To: SVP, Operations About the Role The Director of the Emergency Department Administration is a key leader responsible for the overall management and operation of a high-volume, 24/7 Emergency Department that serves around 45,000 patients annually within a culturally diverse community. This position is ideal for a master’s prepared Emergency Medicine Nurse Leader, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant with substantial clinical and administrative experience. In collaboration with the Emergency Department Medical Director and senior leadership, you will lead critical operational functions, workflow enhancements, quality improvement initiatives, staffing strategies, and budget oversight. Although the role primarily focuses on administrative leadership, it also involves clinical responsibilities aligned with the individual's licensure. The perfect candidate will exhibit strategic thinking, collaborative leadership, and a commitment to driving operational excellence and high-quality patient care in a dynamic emergency care setting. The Director will work closely with the Emergency Department Medical Director to manage the daily operations of a busy 24/7 emergency service. While the focus is predominantly administrative, some clinical practice responsibilities are required. Together with the senior clinical management team, the Director will spearhead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the department's service delivery system and ongoing redesign efforts. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement efficient clinical workflows and practices to support lean initiatives and practice guidelines. Design, implement, and oversee comprehensive performance improvement efforts within the department. Continuously assess and adjust staffing levels in collaboration with the Medical Director and SVP of Operations to ensure high-quality, safe, and effective emergency care. Provide support, guidance, and supervision to the care delivery team, including RNs, MAs, and clerical staff across all shifts. Mentor charge nurses responsible for patient flow, providing ongoing education and leadership support. Represent the Emergency Department at key meetings and committees such as Infection Control and Performance Improvement. Deliver direct patient care relevant to the role of the NP/PA or RN as applicable. Collaborate with the Medical Director and Finance Team in developing and monitoring the departmental annual budget. Ensure the implementation of safety policies and practices, promoting a safe and efficient work environment. Requirements: Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, or a master's degree in nursing management. At least 5 years of progressively responsible supervisory and management experience, ideally within an Emergency Department or Critical Care setting. A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care. Experience with Lean concepts applied to clinical workflows is advantageous. Experience serving a diverse patient population is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect across diverse teams. Exceptional problem-solving capabilities and conflict-resolution skills. Capacity to manage sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
